Manager, Revenue Accounting - Alexandria, VA (Hybrid)
Full-time/Direct Hire - 2 days a week onsite


Reporting to the Director, Revenue Accounting, you will be responsible for compliance with the company's revenue accounting and the general oversight of the monthly revenue close process. Primary responsibilities include the proper application of accounting policy, documentation of unique or complex arrangements to ensure proper recognition of revenue, oversight of staff and senior revenue accountants, and maintenance of the end-to-end revenue recognition process ensuring that it is well-documented, streamlined, efficient, and SOX compliant.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the successful and timely completion of the monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close process.
  • Preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, analytical and reporting packages, and SOX controls.
  • In coordination with the Director, Revenue, ownership of the NetSuite operational and systemic workflows for the order-to-cash process.
  • Responsible for performing and documenting technical accounting research for non-routine or complex revenue transactions to support compliance with applicable authoritative literature (ASC 606 and other applicable standards) in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of revenue recognition policies and procedures, ensuring the identification of, and compliance with, key controls pursuant to the Company's SOX 404 compliance process and procedures.
  • Work with departments across the organization to increase financial reporting accuracy with a focus on revenue recognition and reporting.
  • Assist in researching applicable accounting standards to ensure internal and external compliance in recording and reporting transactions which includes necessary documentation as required.
  • Work closely with the FP&A team to provide guidance on revenue accounting to aid in the accurate development of budgets and forecasts.
  • Liaison with external auditors, present significant item updates, support documentation for the quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
  • Ongoing identification of opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Oversight of staff and senior revenue accountants to include ongoing guidance, development, and growth of personnel.
  • Lead and participate in ad hoc projects as needed.


Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in a public accounting or revenue role.
  • Proficient understanding of (US GAAP) software revenue recognition including extensive experience in the application of ASC 606, strong working knowledge of all other current authoritative literature related to revenue recognition, and strong working knowledge of general GAAP.
  • High level of attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to prioritize demands and meet deadlines.
  • Must be self-driven and have the ability to work independently with little oversight.
  • Must be highly analytical with demonstrated experience in critical thinking and analytical problem-solving.
  • Highly proficient using complete Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) with strong knowledge and understanding of Excel.
  • Asks questions and seeks input; curious; ability to think creatively with high standards of accuracy and precision.


Experience Preferred

Working in a public company and exposure to external reporting requirements (10K's, 10Q's, etc.).

  • Experience working in a technology or software company.
  • Experience with NetSuite.
  • CPA certification or CPA candidate.
