Job Purpose:

The position has significant freedom to conduct analysis and develop solutions to actuarial issues. The primary purpose is to conduct analysis, and communicate conclusions of analysis, helping to drive desired business performance. The position requires a high level of delegation to get work done through others. The position requires the ability to communicate complex analysis and conclusions to business leaders, assisting those leaders in taking appropriate actions to meet company financial objectives. This position has regular interaction with external audiences in support of filings, audits, catastrophe modeling, reinsurance placement, and MGA program assessment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides thought leadership, analytical expertise, and process oversight for significant strategic initiatives.
  • New product development - industry, peer, and market analyses to support new initiatives.
  • Serves as actuarial viewpoint expert in a wide variety of actuarial subjects, and in company, industry, and regulatory practices.
  • Provides effective interaction with leadership of Underwriting, Product, Finance, IT, Claims and other units as required by projects.
  • Provides effective interaction with external audiences in support of filings, audits, catastrophe modeling, reinsurance placement, and MGA program assessment.
  • Sets expectations for actuarial model capabilities, identify model data needs and available sources.
  • Sets assumptions and oversees pricing studies, rate filings, analyzes and interprets financial results, communicates to product leadership.
  • Conducts analysis by qualitatively and/or quantitatively analyzing data and information, including exploratory data analysis, graphing, forecasting, and modeling, to identify trends and deviations.
  • Analyzes and documents complex data and business problems and provides recommendations based on research of performance analysis and business products for optimal business solutions.
  • Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to persuade a different point of view.
  • Provides leadership to junior staff through guidance and training.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field
  • Six-plus years of experience in actuarial setting with progressive responsibilities
  • FCAS Level or equivalent
  • Broad knowledge of insurance operations and products and emerging issues
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences in an informal setting
  • Ability to interact with other functional areas as required
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, produce accurate results and develop self-validation skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals
  • Technology skills: Microsoft Excel, programming, data manipulation (SQL, Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience in MGA program assessment is a plus.

Compensation may vary based on the job level, your geographic work location, position incentive plan and exemption status.

Base Salary Range:
$121,600.00 - $182,400.00
