Guideline is looking for a Payroll Manager to join the Finance team to support the company’s rapid growth.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual contributor to join the Finance team as payroll and benefits manager. The Payroll Manager will be a key member of the Finance to maintain, improve and manage all aspects of payroll, benefits, state payroll filings and HR compliance work in regards to payroll. In this role, you will also foster relationships with outsourced providers and with internal stakeholders by establishing and maintaining the exceptional business relationships with cross functional teams.

Responsibilities included, but not limited to:

  • Oversee the implementation of the HRIS/Payroll implementation within domestic, possibly internationally later on.
  • Manage the payroll process & streamline the exempt & non exempt payroll process. 
  • Interface directly with Guideline’s IT, Legal & People Operations team, ensuring clear communication of Payroll requirements, serving as the primary point of contact for Payroll. 
  • Partner with the People Operations team to ensure payroll data flows seamlessly between People Ops and Payroll and ensure changes are implemented correctly across various systems.
  • Experience with US GAAP payroll and compensation expense reporting, develop a user testing strategy for Payroll including assisting in the auditing/reconciliation of the data for the processing of Payroll.
  • Reconcile payments for HSA, FSA, 401k  and all company benefits
  • Act as the system expert for Payroll, managing day to day system, compliance with existing states as well as the addition of new states, maintenance & ad hoc setup for internal payroll codes/updates. 
  • Assist in overseeing the timely preparation, processing, maintenance and appropriate distribution of payroll information, payroll reports, and tax year-end reports, providing back up to other payroll employees as needed. 
  • Apply knowledge of IRS regulations, as well as State taxes, wage and hour laws, and local tax requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Support month end close by providing payroll reports and explanations as needed.
  • Document payroll processes and workflows.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of recent hands-on payroll experience at a fast growth company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) is a plus but not required.
  • Experience managing complex projects.
  • Experience implementing a HRIS/Payroll system. Ceridian experience is a plus.
  • Advanced level Excel skills, with proven ability to develop and generate ad hoc reports.
  • Data analysis skills
  • Strong knowledge of payroll protocols, particularly with IRS regulations, Federal, State, and local tax and labor laws, as well as IRS Sections 401k and 125, and worker’s compensation required.
  • Ability to maintain data confidentiality with a strong sense of professional integrity.
  • Highly analytical with exceptional organization and prioritization skills, and proven ability to meet hard deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and ability to communicate concisely, both written and verbally.
  • Proactive, flexible, assertive, with a creative approach to problem solving and a key focus on process improvements.
