The Payroll Specialist executes the payroll function for Leica Biosystems (LBS) North America and serves as the liaison with Human Resources to review payroll data and address concerns. This role drives future process enhancements for payroll that services all North America-based LBS associates . The Payroll Specialist also performs a variety of accounting functions in preparation, distribution and reporting of payroll ensuring compliance with legal and tax requirements in the US, Canada and various states/provinces and applicable local jurisdictions. Prepares and files all required reports associated with payroll in North America. Performs a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including processing regular and non-regular payroll, administering time and attendance policies and system, computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing requests for special payments and paycheck advances, and processing terminations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Processes payroll for all exempt, non-exempt, and executive LBS North America-based associates in multi-state/province environments, including but not limited to: new hires, terminations, status changes, merit increases, bonuses, commissions, tax deductions, direct deposit, vacation, personal leaves, and overtime.
  • Serves as the point of contact for all North American associates and thirdparty service providers regarding payroll inquiries.
  • Demonstrate business acumen and an excellent customer service attitude.
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed.
  • Advises regarding payroll, reporting, and communication for all North American locations.
  • Implements, institutes, and assures accurate payroll practices and procedures in accordance with corporate and applicable state/province and federal legislation, and communicates this to all within LBS North America.
  • Assists with payroll-related benefit accruals and analyses.
  • Assists in preparation of quarterly North American tax reporting, including W2s, T4s and other government reporting, to ensure that all filings and payments are on time.
  • Monitors SUI rate and any state and agency updates. Manages payroll taxes as appropriate.
  • Handles all payroll tax audits and inquiries from relevant government jurisdictions and any related penalty items.
  • Support implementations of software and program modules/interfaces to ensure establishment of smooth communication and processes.
  • Request manual and off-cycle check requests to correct errors or adjustments.
  • Acts as direct liaison with LBS banking institutions and answers questions concerning salary, social security, associate payroll withholding taxes, calculations (variable salary components), and payroll-related financial recording.
  • Manages and audits the North American payroll tax filings and payments for all taxable items, such as relocation, group term life, bonuses, and auto fringe benefits.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with Human Resources, associates, IT, and external payroll service providers.
  • Prepare or oversees the preparation W2s, T4s and other government reporting to ensure that all filings and payments are on time.
  • Stays current on newly enacted and evolving tax regulations to ensure the Company's compliance with all laws and regulations, including SUI rates and any state and agency updates.

    DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • Able to perform accounting tasks or processes in areas in addition to payroll
  • Experience in SAP
  • Hands-on experience processing multi-national payroll strongly preferred.
  • Associate degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field equivalent.

Educational/Certifications/Training:
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience processing multi-state payroll and/or equivalent payroll system experience.
  • Experience with Time recordkeeping and payroll processing software (ADP, eTime, Payforce)
