About the job
The Red Hat Americas Accounting team is looking for a North America Revenue Accounting Manager to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will lead a team responsible for revenue accounting for contracts with Red Hat's royalty customers in accordance with U.S. GAAP. You will report directly to the senior director of americas accounting and work cross-functionally with the Accounting, Finance, Sales and Sales Operations, Products and Technologies (PnT), Legal, and Order Management teams. As the North America Revenue Accounting Manager, you'll need to have excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills. You will strive to improve team performance and collaborate across Red Hat. You'll also need to be able to analyze data and effectively present findings and business insight to your stakeholders, including senior management.
What you will do

  • Actively lead a team in the delivery of royalty revenue accounting services
  • Hire, retain, coach and develop highly capable associates
  • Assess performance and provide feedback to associates; administer compensation programs
  • Comply with Red Hat's accounting and operational practices and conform to U.S. GAAP
  • Oversee operations of a team responsible for the monthly accounting cycle, including journals, reconciliations, and reporting and disclosures
  • Oversee the royalty revenue accounting process, including managing partner profiles and relationships, reading and interpreting contracts, providing guidance on the booking of orders, and resolving ad hoc royalty issues
  • Team up with the Business Controls team and the Revenue Accounting process owner to identify risk and design SOX and operational controls to mitigate it
  • Ensure the effective implementation of controls through timely monitoring
  • Collaborate with Legal, Sales, and Sales Operations teams in structuring and reviewing revenue contracts and provide sound technical accounting guidance
  • Engage with internal and external audit teams to support the quarterly review and annual audit activities


What you will bring

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or finance; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification is a plus
  • Recent experience related to the new Revenue Recognition Guidance (ASC 606)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities by identifying and engaging appropriate resources to deliver under given time constraints and deadlines
  • Stakeholder customer management skills, both internally and externally
  • Solid analytical abilities with advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with Salesforce.com (SFDC), Oracle, or RevStream
  • Demonstrated experience working in a cross-functional team
  • Result-oriented and comfortable working on your own in a high-paced environment
  • Ability to take direction and work without direct supervision to complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner
