As a part of Gannett's Manufacturing & Distribution Team, the Finance Manager will lead in the effort in analyzing all circulation financial expense data for GPS's annual expense budget for a defined area. This role will be responsible for detailed analysis of each unit's monthly expense data including trending analysis on expense categories such as payroll, piece rates, distribution and hauling metrics, travel, and all other expense detail. The position will assist in the monthly accounting closes, including reviewing expenses, preparing accruals, and investigating large variances to budget where applicable. The position will participate in a monthly financial review meeting, updating high-level management of each unit's performance. The Finance Manager will assist the Market Directors/VPs in preparing reasonable and realistic annual budgets while achieving financial goals. This position will also produce monthly financial reporting and analysis to assist the Market Directors, Distribution Directors, and the Vice President in the analysis of financial performance. This position will provide ad hoc financial analysis for projects and assist in the development of sound financial strategies, including identifying efficiencies where possible. The Finance Manager will also be responsible to ensure that all accounting and reporting is following departmental and company policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

Ongoing analysis of daily, weekly, and monthly financial performance identifying variances to budget and last year's performance and make recommendations for improvement to VP's.

Review all financial transactions, including commercial delivery revenue and expense, during monthly accounting closes and prepare revenue/expense accruals as needed. Investigate large variances to plan, initiating corrective action, if necessary.

Provide monthly reports on financial performance to Operations Management and assist with identifying variances to plan and potential resolutions, if warranted. Participate in monthly financial review meetings updating corporate management on each unit's performance.

Provide ad hoc financial analysis for projects, financial tracking on special projects and savings initiatives, and conduct periodic profitability analysis on various products. Ensure the compliance of all financial standards including use of BPC reporting, Infor, and other financial tools. Assist local unit finance staff with understanding financial impact of operational changes.

Spearhead the preparation of site annual expense budgets and update site expense forecasts including People Cube updates quarterly. Participate in annual budget meetings reviewing all budget work and recommending any necessary changes.

The successful candidate will have applicable work experience and a minimum of 3 years management experience, preferably with an accounting and/or analyst background. Must be proficient in MS Office, including Excel. Experience with business enterprise software such as SAP/EPM/BPC is a preferred.

Must be professional and have the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must communicate thoroughly and effectively with team members and various levels of management throughout the organization. Candidate must be able to work at a fast pace when needed and shift priorities quickly as the workload changes. The ability to multi-task and work effectively under deadlines, with a solid commitment and means to achieve them, is required
