Position Summary:

Provides day-to-day management of the Cost Accounting Function and Team for month-end close, financial reporting, budget/forecast development, and manufacturing cost-reduction activities and initiatives. Collaborates well with other leaders at the site as well as with operational leaders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the US Cost Accounting across two manufacturing plant locations for Warehouses, Inventory Controls and OCOGS ownership
  • Responsible for adherence to cost accounting standards at Dexcom including SOX controls, GAAP reporting and accounting analytics
  • Responsible for assisting in Project Teams for system enhancements and company wide improvements
  • Participates in strategic cost savings and other value-added initiatives within the operations, inventory, and costing functions
  • Owns the development and maintenance of the SOX Inventory Narrative
  • Owns implementing process efficiency improvements through system automation and expansion
  • Responsible for mentoring and developing Cost Accounting team
  • Drives process and reporting improvements across the organization
  • Crucial team member of key projects across the cost and operations organizations


Lead of cost accounting team:

  • Owns month end close activities related to cost accounting as well as post reporting analytics to drive actionable intelligence to plant leadership
  • Manages the analysis and updates of various inventory related reserves
  • Owns reporting for KPI's to assist leaders in actionable intelligence
  • Assists in the quarterly and annual financial audits (compiling and preparing cost data for support of schedules and questions)
  • Partners with Logistics Leadership to ensures accuracy of inventory through physical inventories and cycle counts; owning SOX adherence and audit compliance
  • Represents Cost Accounting and Finance on new product introduction and update projects
  • Provides functional support to the Sr. Manager of Operations Finance in developing and documenting policies and procedures, including system requirements and internal controls
  • Partners closely with FP&A organization to ensure accurate reporting, variance analysis and forecast inputs


Required Qualifications:

  • Proficient in all Microsoft applications especially in Excel and Power Points (pivot tables, vlookup, filters).
  • Technical ability to work with large data sets from multiple systems and make good business judgment when necessary
  • Good communication skills and comfortable working with -US based employees at differing levels
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Understanding of general accounting principles & essential financial reporting for P&L and balance sheet (accruals, prepaids, capital expenditures)
  • Strong work ethic with a collaborative attitude and confident written and verbal communicator
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines while delivering consistent, accurate and reliable work


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Hyperion and Oracle
  • Industry experience in medical device
  • Enjoys both working with people and computer systems and manipulation of detailed data


Functional Description

Manages the development, implementation and/or maintenance of one or more accounting systems: Journal entries, General Ledger, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payable, Revenue Reconciliation, Cash Flows, etc. in accordance with GAAP policies and procedures. Designs operational procedures and processes that meet audit standards and improve efficiency. Ensures integration of data produced into systems and supports objectives of financial analysts. Ensures the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data and revenue. Participates in annual audits and special projects. May work with external consultants or auditors to provide required information and ensure proper recordkeeping for historical purposes. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

  • Manages the coordination of department/functional activities with responsibility for results, methods and staffing.
  • In some instances may be responsible for a functional area or contracted / outsourced employees or matrixed reports.
  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 8-12 years of industry experience.
  • 2-5 years of previous management or lead experience.


Workplace Type

  • The Workplace Type for this role is Flex. Based on the nature of your position you will be working onsite approximately 2-3 days per week from collaborative space and hoteling desks at our Dexcom sites. You will need to be located within commuting distance (typically 75 miles/120km) of your assigned Dexcom site.
