The Economic Forecasting and Analysis team, sitting under Capital One's Capital Markets and Analytics (CMA) organization, is responsible for understanding economic trends and providing official forecasts for Capital One. Economic forecasts are provided as part of our Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) process each year, our planning and loss accounting process each quarter, and stress and other ad hoc analysis upon request by senior management. The team utilizes a large scale econometric model along with information and forecasts from a variety of sources to assess the economy and provide insight into impacts on Capital One.. Economic forecasts are key elements in understanding our balance sheet, capital position, and prospects for future growth.
The economic forecast is a key starting point for allowance and capital decisions and therefore requires a high level of governance. The individual chosen for this role on the Economic Forecasting and Analysis team will provide support for and maintenance of the process for forecasting the economy within the governance structure. This role offers a high performing candidate the unique opportunity to maintain and enhance the large scale macroeconomic model used in creating the forecast, the ability to partner with key technology/data partners, various lines of business, Finance and Risk departments, and governance participants, and an opportunity to study and analyze the economy to drive insights from the economic forecast and economy in general. Given the importance of the forecast in producing the allowance forecast, assessing our capital positions, and creating our financial plan, it is critical to ensure our model and the forecasts created by it are well governed. The individual in this role will be responsible for working with the Model Risk Office, Audit, Capital Risk Oversight, and outside auditors to demonstrate an exceptionally well controlled process. Additionally, the individual in this role has an opportunity to drive enhancements to the controls, the forecast, and the process in general .
Major Responsibilities Include:
-Maintain and enhance the economic forecast process including governance and control procedures
-Provide economic forecasts for CCAR, planning, and allowance purposes
-Support governing bodies, Finance Leadership, and second and third line partners with documentation and communication of the process and outcomes
-Provide analysis of economic activity in support of the Economic Sign-Off Committee
-Lead efforts to enhance economic forecasts through analysis, model equation development, and economic theory
-Support downstream model developers and owners that use economic data with analysis and insight into economic trends, activity, and forecasts and provide support for extended use of economic data
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or military experience
- At least 5 years of experience in financial modeling and financial analysis
- At least 5 years of experience in securitization, or in finance, or in capital markets
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering
- 2+ years of experience in Statistical model building
- 2+ years of experience in market research
- 2+ years of experience in business analysis
- Proficient in Python
- Knowledgeable about Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure
