The Pension and Endowments Department (PEN) is responsible for the financial management and administration of the World Bank Group's funded benefit plans, including the retirement scheme - the Staff Retirement Plan, the retiree medical and life insurance programs - the Retired Staff Benefits Plan, and other ancillary benefits. Financial management includes asset management responsibilities and actuarial support. PEN manages approximately US$40 billion invested across a range of asset classes, including fixed income, public equities, private equity, real assets, private credit, and absolute return strategies. The Pension Finance Committee, appointed by the WBG President and chaired by the Chief Financial Officer, has oversight responsibility for the financial management of the plans. PEN's responsibilities also include the delivery of technical assistance on multi-asset class investment management to pension plans, endowments, and funds for the future (under the WB Treasury's Reserves Advisory and Management Partnership program), and the management of the Pension Administration function. PEN identifies, selects, evaluates, and monitors investments, mainly through outside managers, globally.
The Investment Analyst will be part of the Private Credit team.
Roles & Responsibility :
As part of the Private Credit Team, the Investment Analyst will assist and support the investment team in executing its work program. The specific duties will be, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
• Review and assist in the preparation of performance reporting package on a monthly and quarterly basis (in conjunction with the middle office);• Preparation of weekly Investment Committee materials (agenda, minutes);• Assist in reviewing investment proposals and selecting outside private credit fund managers;• Assist with due diligence and documentation for new investments, including investment memos, performance and peer universe benchmarking analysis, quality of teams and investment strategy, investment theses and risks, and expected returns;• Assist in preparing presentations for the Pension Finance Committee;• Assist in monitoring and supervision of current portfolio of existing managers (quarterly update calls and meetings), including designing and updating reporting templates and cash flow models;• Perform research on overall private credit markets as well as specific sub-sectors such as direct lending and opportunistic credit;• Assist in additional projects as needed within PEN.
Selection Criteria
1. Masters degree required, preferably in finance, business, or economics, and two years relevant work experience in finance and investments (focus on analytical methods and quantitative analysis preferred), or an appropriate combination of education and relevant experience.
2. Professional Certification in CFA and/or CAIA is a plus.
3. Proven quantitative and qualitative analytical and problem-solving skills.
4. Proficiency in Excel and Excel macros, Word, Powerpoint, and OneNote is required. Familiarity with other quantitative and analytical packages e.g. Python, PowerBI is desirable.
5. Creative thinker, and quick learner, with initiative, drive, and attention to detail.
6. Proven capacity to multi-task, deliver results and respond quickly and effectively to requests. Ability to work under pressure.
7. Excellent communication - both verbal and written skills are required. Experience giving presentations and training is desirable.
8. Good team player with strong interpersonal skills, and commitment to work in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.
9. Highest ethical standards.
