THE TEAM
MassMutual Financial Advisors (“MMFA”) serves as the career agency distribution channel at MassMutual, providing a wide range of products and services, including life insurance, disability income insurance, long term care insurance and annuities, distributed through over 7000+ career agents and registered representatives. MMFA distribution also includes investment and advisory products and solutions sold through MML Investors Services (“MMLIS”), MassMutual's registered broker-dealer and investment advisor. The Head of MMFA Compliance is a key leader in the Compliance & Ethics organization at MassMutual, responsible for overseeing the establishment of compliance programs designed to enable MMFA to achieve its business objectives while complying with all regulatory requirements and risk mitigation objectives. In addition, as Chief Compliance Officer for the MMLIS broker-dealer and investment advisor, the Head of MMFA Compliance is responsible for establishing, maintaining and enforcing a system of supervisory controls that test and verify that MMLIS policies and procedures are reasonably designed with respect to its activities and the activities of its registered representatives and associated persons to achieve compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Head of MMFA Compliance reports directly to MassMutual's Chief Compliance & Ethics Officer, and for regulatory purposes to the MMLIS CEO, and works closely with senior leaders in MMFA and MMLIS, as well as within Compliance & Ethics, to carry out all compliance responsibilities.
THE IMPACT:
- Leads team of 40+ compliance professionals responsible for the development and implementation of compliance programs necessary to support MMFA and MMLIS.
- Drives recommendations, development and monitoring of MMFA and MMLIS compliance policies and procedures.
- Ensures ongoing risk assessments and periodic testing of MMFA and MMLIS compliance policies and procedures to validate their effectiveness.
- Manages the development and implementation of an effective inspection program for MMFA career agency offices, including MMLIS offices of supervisory jurisdiction and the associated support and training for field agency supervisors.
- As Chief Compliance Officer for MMLIS, prepares annual reports to the MMLIS CEO and President evaluating the adequacy of the broker-dealer and investment advisor compliance and supervisory infrastructure.
- Manages consulting support for new and existing MMFA and MMLIS business initiatives, including new products/programs, new administrative platforms and procedures, new rules and regulations, deficiencies/gaps identified through internal or external testing and necessary plans of correction/mitigation, changes in career agency supervisory structure, including changes to policies and procedures and the MMLIS Compliance Manual and Field Manual.
- Serves on the MMLIS Broker-Dealer Product, Conflicts and Investment Advisory Committees.
- Maintains and oversees critical surveillance systems, personnel and processes for the MMLIS broker-dealer and investment advisor.
- Drives development and delivery of MMFA and MMLIS specific training for both home office and field agency MMLIS associated personnel and for MassMutual career agents.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree required; law or other advanced degree preferred
- FINRA Series 7 and 24
THE IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of compliance experience involving broker-dealer, investment advisor and insurance distribution activities; direct regulatory experience a plus
- Deep understanding of the broker-dealer, investment advisor and insurance distribution business to guide decisions and actions to support the business strategy
- Self-motivated, creative and proactive leader
- Comfortable working collaboratively across the organization in a complex, fast paced, dynamic and continually evolving business and regulatory environment
- Strong people leadership and management skills; ability to attract, engage and develop diverse talent and future leaders
- Excellent organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills
- Sound judgment and decision-making abilities; confidence and courage to speak up, ask tough questions, challenge status quo and act
- Ability to confidently and proactively influence business leadership
- Strong written and oral communication skills to inform and influence business leaders, including executive leadership and board of director audience
- Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
