Reinsurance Administration Team

Full Time

Springfield, MA or Boston, MA

* We have returned to the office in a hybrid structure to maximize collaboration and flexibility, blending time working remotely (part-time in the office/part-time remote), and may be asked to travel between Springfield and Boston campuses.

The Opportunity

The Reinsurance Administration Team is seeking a highly-engaged individual to join a dynamic and agile team environment. This individual will be someone who is organized, detail-oriented and excited to take accountability and ownership for their work.

In this position the individual will be responsible for reinsurance administration processing oversight, maintaining reinsurer relationships, treaty implementation, audits and quality reviews, complex issue research, and special projects. The individual will report to the Head of Reinsurance Administration while collaborating with team members, legal, underwriting, claims, product teams, systems teams and partners across the CFO organization.

The Team

Reinsurance Administration is a small team responsible for the administrative and operational aspects of all reinsurance agreements across the company and is part of the larger Reinsurance Development team. We manage all of the operational relationships with our reinsurers. The team is focused on effectively administering all of our reinsurance agreements, implementing new agreements, developing efficient processes, optimizing the Company's existing use of reinsurance, and collaborating across the organization.

We thrive on identifying solutions and executing, but also on effectively managing all our agreements, ensuring appropriate controls and governance around all aspects of reinsurance, serving as subject matter experts for the company, and continuous process and control improvement.

The Impact

Reinsurance provides essential support for nearly every product line at MassMutual, where the individual will have broad exposure across the company and perform a function that directly impacts the company's performance and provides critical support for key strategic initiatives.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Ensure our administration processes adhere to treaty terms, implement new treaties and supporting processes
  • Provide support for new products/system initiatives
  • Provide transactional oversight and quality assurance of reinsurance administration activities, developing expertise in policy-level transactions and the appropriate impact to reinsurance
  • Drive productive interactions related to new product design, new releases, projects, and company strategic goals and lead the effective implementation and administration of reinsurance programs to support them
  • Understand and optimize dataflows, planning appropriately for changes and prioritizing and implementing enhancements
  • Maintain and evaluate our internal controls and consistently improve upon a strong control environment
  • Collaborate and partner with other MassMutual business units and corporate functions to ensure the accurate, timely and efficient submission of data and analysis required to reinsurers and to meet reporting requirements
  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase the business value and efficiency of the team
  • Review analysis of cashflow and reserve trends, providing business insights to support the quarterly financial close and management needs

The Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in accounting, finance, statistics, mathematics, or related field
  • 3 years of experience working in a large insurance organization, life insurance, financial services or related fields.
  • Proficient with MS Excel and Office suite of products
  • Experience using data to explore issues, quantify results, and present conclusions
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across cross-functional groups

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience with Life reinsurance is strongly preferred
  • Experience with TAI's Life Reinsurance platform, especially TAI.Net
  • Ability to support reinsurance processes end-to-end, including treaty interpretation, data quality, transactional oversight, client reporting, analysis of results, and customer support for the reinsurers
  • Skill improving business processes, including analysis of risks and impacts
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to proactively partner across the organization on cross-functional projects or to resolve issues
  • Experience in SQL or another database language, or familiarity with DB tools such as Alteryx and Tableau
  • Experience with SAP, or other financial ledger systems
  • Ability to proactively take ownership of projects and drive them through to completion
  • Ability to perform independent research and prepare analyses, drawing conclusions and recommending business solutions
