Financial Analyst

Description

This posting is to fill a Financial Analyst position within the APC Finance and Corporate Planning Team. The position will be responsible for supporting various Business Units ensuring their financial reporting and analysis objectives are met.

Location: Birmingham, Alabama (Alabama Power Corporate Headquarters) / Hybrid

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Play a key role in implementing Enterprise Foundations related reporting and analysis
  • Preparing budgets, performing monthly cost analysis, identifying variance drivers, and performing ad hoc financial analysis
  • Preparing in-depth analysis to develop costing models that help streamline processes and to gain efficiencies
  • Analyzing financial risks and opportunities and developing insights to guide the leadership team on financial decisions around business performance.
  • Addressing O&M and capital reporting needs, profitability analysis, specific sensitivity/trending analysis, and metric related information
  • Building strong working relationships with internal and external business partners to develop a deep understanding of the business
  • Developing and delivering executive level presentations capable of clearly articulating the Company's financial goals and objectives
  • Supporting regulatory strategic analysis
  • Identifying and leading opportunities for continuous improvement, sharing best practices, and engaging in team building and business learning opportunities

Candidates with the following preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent or four or more years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • Familiar with the preparation of General Ledgers, Basic Knowledge of FASB requirements, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Foundation systems and tools
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and strategic focus
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite with proven focus on Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold confidentiality

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable on financial principles such as net income, earnings per share, cash flow analysis, and revenue requirements
  • Ability to utilize and develop tools to access, integrate, analyze, and visualize data from multiple sources
  • Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Excel, Toad for SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Management, Visual Studio
  • Knowledge of data analytics platforms is a plus (i.e., Oracle Analytics, Power BI, etc.)
  • Communicate with stakeholders in a clear and concise manner - demonstrates organizational savvy
  • Commitment to continuous personal development and process improvement
  • Ability to work proactively, independently and in a team environment
  • Intellectual curiosity
