Job Description

The finance manager oversees the financial operations of an organization. They monitor the company's financial position and produce relevant financial reports. They work closely with management to develop and implement strategies and plans to achieve the company's long-term objectives.

The finance manager uses their in-depth analytical skills to help leadership understand the financial health of the organization for improved decision making. They work collaboratively to expand in diverse funding sources and leverage technology in the process. The finance manager will use data analysis techniques to advise leadership on strategies for program enhancement.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Agency's accounting and financial reporting processes
  • Supervise the accounting staff and working collaboratively across programs to assure processes are in place for accounting and finance functions
  • Assist the Sr. Director of Finance with the Agency's strategic planning implementation involving accounting and finance, and other duties as assigned
  • Manage general accounting and financial reporting function, to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, grants reporting and medical billing
  • Gain a strong, working knowledge of Financial Edge NXT accounting platform to understand capabilities and support those who have access to the system
  • Prepare monthly and annual agency financial statements on a timely basis
  • Supervise Finance Team staff and collaborate with all program and support teams as needed
  • Assist in developing agency financial strategies and provide financial analysis to agency teams; assist in establishing functional objectives for Finance Team in line with agency objectives
  • Manage planning and process of annual independent audit and IRS Form 990 preparation
  • Provide financial forecasts and projections for agency financial planning
  • Assist Sr. Director of Finance in coordination and preparation of the agency annual operating budget
  • Monitor cash reserves and investments and collaborate with Sr. Finance Director regarding proper investment strategies to share with Finance Committee to the Board
  • Assist the Sr. Director of Finance to evaluate and enhance internal controls within the agency
  • Assist Sr. Director of Finance with annual updates for the agency's Finance Policies
  • Manage issuance and cancellation of agency credit cards, and policies and procedures related to credit cards
  • Maintain technical knowledge of accounting and finance promulgation from the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Nebraska State Board of Public Accountancy


Education and Training

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting


Work Experience

  • The successful candidate must possess a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory/leadership experience
  • The successful candidate must possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Accounting.


Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communications skills (written, verbal and active listening)
  • A keen focus on accuracy/attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with other leaders, the team, co-workers, and business partners
  • Proficient in Microsoft platforms - Excel, Word, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in accounting platforms (Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT helpful but not required)
  • Experience in non-profit accounting preferred, but not required
  • Performs as a team player and team builder
  • Agile in flexibility and in prioritizing concurrent demands
  • Maintains confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, confidence and ethical standards
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills


Other

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check
  • Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver's license and proof of valid insurance
  • Position may involve some travel, primarily within the state
