This role would work out of Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC or Atlanta, GA preferably but is open to considering additional locations based on candidate experience.

Economists utilize in-depth industry knowledge and expertise of payments and lending products, market trends, and economic benefits to define the business strategy and evaluate opportunities for Truist. Individuals will work with cross-functional internal and external partners to structure competitive assessments and intelligence briefs, disseminate findings and convey business impacts, and analyze Truist relative positioning in the context of our business objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Create meaningful presentations to distill trends in a useful manner for non-technical audiences to convey market trends and relative Truist performance.
2. Real-time synthesis of economic and internal performance data with collaboration across various analytics partners to craft data into economic frameworks including models, variables, and input assumptions.
3. Evaluate the efficacy of the business, and convey performance in straight-forward assessments that connect actual and expected performance to business plans and initiatives.
4. Gather internal and external economic data, analyze and extract meaningful business insights to assess strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
5. Display excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with teammates and external partners broadly, evaluating and uncovering strategic insights related to Profit & Loss performance including the evaluation of direct initiatives and future business changes.
6. Apply econometric rigor to evaluate competitive offerings, market share, and expectations of future performance for various existing and new entrants into the payments and lending space.
7. Use various analysis data-packs from internal and external teams to assess business performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Bachelor's degree in a business-related field (e.g. Economics, Finance, Business Management), or equivalent education and related training
2. 6 or more years of large bank experience with 2-4 years of Payments experience; or Master's degree in Economics, Business Management and at least 4 years of large bank experience
3. Demonstrated understanding of Profit & Loss management with strong analytical skills to evaluate financial performance mechanics
4. Demonstrated ability to gather market research, economic data, and internal performance data to distill key findings through compelling presentations; Solid understanding of economic theory, financial analysis, and econometrics
5. Ability to represent the business with various partners, conveying performance objectives, setting goals, results and strategy using a balance of strategic thinking and practical implementation
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex ideas in a straightforward manner working in cross-functional teams, and effectively influencing internal and external partners
7. Experience identifying business needs and crafting strategic plans driven by qualitative/quantitative analysis and market insights, working in cross-functional teams towards implementation of plans
8. Self-starter; ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
9. Analytic curiosity; ability to derive context from various information sources and connect learnings to the business
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in a business-related field (e.g. Economics, Finance, Business Management), or equivalent education and related training
2. Prior experience in business planning, performance assessments, and strategy formation
