Domestic Tax Accountant
The Opportunity
As a Domestic Tax Accountant in the Domestic Tax Unit you'll have an opportunity to join an engaged team of professionals who work to reduce the Company's exposure to tax risks, support M&A transactions, provide high-quality tax advice, and satisfy tax accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements for the Company's domestic life insurance companies and its non-insurance subsidiaries.
The Team
The Domestic Tax Accountant will report to the Head of Domestic Tax, a part of the Corporate Tax Department within Corporate Controllers. The team is responsible for federal and state tax compliance, GAAP and Statutory tax accounting including computations of quarterly and annual income tax provisions, financial statement reporting, and income tax planning and forecasting.
The Impact:
- Prepare and review income tax provisions in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting rules (ASC740 and SSAP101)
- Prepare and review Federal and state tax compliance for domestic life insurance companies and non-insurance subsidiaries
- Support GAAP and statutory audits
- Assist with IRS and state audits
- Monitor legislation and regulatory developments and model impacts of legislative proposals
- Assist with tax planning opportunities, M&A transactions, and modeling tax impacts of capital planning projects
- Develop a strong working relationship with internal and external clients
- Drives continuous improvement and efficiencies
- Anticipates changes, looks for trends and directs or redirects efforts
- Collaborate with external auditors to provide support
The Minimum Qualifications
- At least 1 year of Statutory tax accounting experience with an understanding of SSAP 101
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance
- At least 5 years income tax experience
- Strong analytical skills
- Working knowledge of tax relevant tools and technology including tax compliance software, GL systems and research software
- Strong time and project management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to identify issues and recommend effective solutions
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact and collaborate within the Tax department and across the Company
- Excellent organizational skills, experience managing a diverse workload and skilled at prioritizing
The Ideal Qualifications
- CPA or MST highly desirable
- Experience with provision/compliance software
