SUMMARY

The Director of Revenue Cycle Site Operations is an accomplished revenue cycle expert, who will undertake a key leadership role supporting all front-end and back office revenue cycle processes which enable JHHS to achieve its overall strategic and financial goals. This position is responsible for establishing and ensuring adherence to JHM enterprise wide policies as well as implementing best practices and initiatives of the revenue cycle activities to optimize the patient's financial interaction along the care continuum. The incumbent is also accountable to develop and harmonize onsite cash management activities across Johns Hopkins Health System, including management of patient valuables, departmental deposits, and compliant financial teller protocols. In addition, the Director of RCM Site Operations will also oversee the Decedent Affairs operations for The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC), while partnering with Pathology and Medical Affairs to optimize and standardize the related functions across JHHS affiliates surrounding release of remains, develop a tool for electronic tracking, maintaining funeral home partnerships, managing completion of autopsy consents, and ensuring timely provider enrollment in Maryland's Electronic Death Registration System

Champions standardization of enterprise-wide revenue cycle processes and procedures and ensures appropriateness it relates to revenue capture and reimbursement.

The Director will work with key stakeholders to achieve consensus in high stakes conversations, employing a collaborative style, to deliver successful outcomes including but not limited to ensuring high level patient experience and key operational and financial metrics which will demonstrate consistent excellent results in all of the areas of responsibility.

This position is responsible for directing and planning the activities and resources associated with the Revenue Cycle processes of JHH and JHBMC as well as setting the overall direction for RCM site operations at JHHS hospital sites.

The responsibility will include the coordination and direction of the implementation of the Epic system and upgrades for the revenue cycle including patient access and hospital billing (HB).

Serves as liaison between the Johns Hopkins Health Services Patient Financial Services/Financial Clearance/Care Coordination, Finance Departments, and clinical practice areas to address revenue charge capture and billing issues as identified.

Establishes and maintains revenue cycle operations, objectives, policies, and procedures aligned with JHM/Hospitals' mission, vision, and values and in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Other primary duties include revenue control including the charge master maintenance with support from Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS), clinical departments, and appeals management department.

This position works closely with JHHS Admitting/Registration, JHM Patient Access, JHM Revenue Management, JHHS Patient Financial Services, JHHS Central Business Office, JHHS Case Mix and JHHS Regulatory Compliance

The incumbent should be of an innovative nature, improving work methods and processes resulting in significant time and cost savings and improving the overall quality of data collection.

Work requires internal contacts within all departments with both patient and revenue responsibilities and coordination of financial results with the other departments JHHS. Works closely with the Epic team to optimize the use of the system in conjunction with operational needs.

Communication with external contacts involve providing service to resolve complaints, resolution of verification and pre-certification issues with third party payers, clarification of technical issues and bulletins with governmental programs, and contact with peers to discuss patient access and revenue cycle issues

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reporting directly to Executive Director, Revenue Cycle Management Hospital Site Operations.
  • Direct reports include Department Managers, and others as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related field. Master's Degree is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10+ years of progressively responsible related experience in patient access services, registration, scheduling, financial clearance, regulatory compliance, and revenue cycle oversight including 3-5 years of management experience.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle including government and nongovernment payor requirements, managed care contracting, claims, billing, and charge reconciliation is required.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and registration information technology platforms is preferred.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills to include formulating recommendations and presenting materials are required.
  • Requires effective customer service and organization skills.
  • Proven demonstrated effectiveness in managing patient access and revenue cycle operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, working with team members and generate desired business outcomes.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical reports, and to read and analyze financial reports.
  • Ability to respond to complex inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information to Management groups and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Must be able to interpret technical and detailed guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Writing is required to explain or describe moderately complex information, compose policies, procedures, and presentation materials.
  • Requires use of intermediate level mathematical formulas and calculations to prepare or interpret routine mathematical/statistical information.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Work requires considerable latitude to decide what work will be required well in advance of the actual activities.
  • Guidelines will not be available in some cases. Anticipating needs and taking initiative is required, as well as the ability to coordinate, prioritize, and organize. Decisions generally impact only the unit supervised or units related by workflow. Solutions are not well established and require analysis of several factors.
  • Requires knowledge of and proficiency of Epic. Microsoft Office, Epic, SAP, Tableau etc.



WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Working Conditions:

Makes frequent trips to the hospital. Local traveling required. Ability to carry up to 15 lbs. Long periods of time sitting in front of a computer screen. Works requires attention to detail and requires mental/visual acuity.

Works in a clean, ventilated and well-lighted office where there are limited physical discomforts due to temperature, noise, dust, etc.
