About the job
The Red Hat Americas Accounting team is looking for a Director of North America Revenue Accounting to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will lead an organization responsible for managing the revenue accounting process and deliver timely and accurate accounting results compiled in accordance with the U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You will report to the senior director of Americas Accounting team and cooperate cross-functionally with the Global Accounting, Finance, Sales and Sales Operations, Products and Technologies, Legal, and Order Management teams. As a Director of North America Revenue Accounting, you will need to have excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills. You will guide team performance and collaborate across Red Hat. You'll need to be able to analyze data and effectively present findings and business insight to your stakeholders including senior management.
What you will do

  • Proactively lead a team of three managers with twenty associates in the delivery of revenue accounting services
  • Oversee operations of an organization responsible for the monthly revenue accounting process including journals, reconciliations, revenue subledger close, and reporting and disclosures
  • Establish strategic direction of the revenue accounting organization and continually assess and adjust organization structure, staffing, and capabilities in response to ever-changing business models and stakeholder requirements
  • Coach and develop highly effective managers capable of leading and developing associates on the revenue delivery teams
  • Ensure that the team is staffed with highly qualified accountants and analysts capable of delivering high quality work while continuously improving processes and operations
  • Comply with Red Hat accounting and operational practices and conform to U.S. GAAP
  • Team with the Red Hat Business Controls and Revenue Accounting process owner to identify risks and design Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) or operational controls to mitigate it
  • Ensure the effective delivery of controls through timely monitoring
  • Provide sound technical revenue accounting guidance to your team and your stakeholders
  • Partner with Red Hat's leaders in Sales, Sales Operations, Legal, Finance, and Product teams to construct sales contracts that align business objectives with accounting requirements
  • Engage with internal and external audit teams to support quarterly review and annual audit activities
  • Review the existing revenue and project accounting close process and identify opportunities to enhance the process to make it more efficient


What you will bring

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification with 10+ years of progressive experience including Big 4 or combination of public accounting and industry
  • Demonstrated experience working and managing cross-functional teams
  • Excellent people management skills, including mapping career paths and practicing motivational behaviors
  • Proven ability to develop and inspire a team by empowering decision making at all levels, offering frequent opportunities to develop, and encouraging feedback
  • Great interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly productive and motivated with a great work ethic and commitment to excellence
  • High sense of accountability
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities by identifying and engaging appropriate resources to deliver under given time constraints and deadlines
  • Ability to present ideas and information in a concise, well organized manner
  • Experience with software and technology companies is a plus
  • Experience with Oracle, RevStream, and SAP BusinessObjects (BOBJ) is a plus
