Our Opportunity:

The Director of Merchandising Catalog and Assortment is responsible for the development and management of our full Catalog of products that’s growing at a 40% or higher rate. You will own the long-term strategic leadership of Catalog growth, in alignment with the Merchandising Category P&L plans and Customer/Assortment strategies for Chewy overall. You will own both, the long-range thinking and driving execution in partnership with Merchandising and Supply Chain teams. This role requires a leader with demonstrable capabilities in long term strategy and stellar execution for multi-billion-dollar plans. The Director influences the organization from insights through action across a multi-dimensional assortment strategy, converting plans worth billions of dollars to Catalog items and vice versa. Finally, this leader will have the single threaded responsibility of creating and managing an aggressive and disciplined Assortment/Catalog for the whole company, where strategy will be distilled into customer facing actions.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define and execute a multi-year Assortment Strategy/philosophy.
  • Responsible for Assortment tactics, prioritization, budget, planning and performance/lifecycle of assortment, and troubleshooting where necessary
  • Partner with Merchandising VP's and Finance leaders to design and roll out twelve-month Category Assortment plans, bringing together company growth plans, key market inputs and customer strategy.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for all Assortment Product and Tech roadmaps.

 Act as a change leader to support company initiatives and develop new analytics/processes with merchandising partners in an evolving operating model.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and communication, ensuring alignment on priorities and direction with appropriate groups and leaders.
  • Support assortment fiscal discipline through adherence to and reconciliation of Merch Assortment Plans; network capacity usage and assortment performance.
  • Lead a team of Catalog, Content and Program Leaders, supported by planning analyst/s to define and drive performance towards objective metrics/standards.
  • Build and leverage data and analytics to create scale and uncover new ways of thinking about assortment. Analyze assortment health, identifying sales opportunities and diagnose inventory liabilities.

What You’ll Need:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems/Finance / Tech. MBA/Masters in addition is strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of multi-channel or omni-channel retail experience in Assortment/Financial planning, Pricing, Merchandise planning/inventory management or similar experience, while building and managing teams.
  • You should be a data and numbers maverick, independently able to create an infrastructure of sourcing, creating, managing and communicating data. Experience with digital tech in pricing, assortment and competitive intelligence is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of retail and a deep understanding of Chewy’s customer first approach.
  • Experience managing and supporting a high-sales volume business (high SKU count, heavy seasonality, high revenue).
  • Proficiency in SQL, other analytical tools, MSBI Office suite required; Highly advanced Excel analytical skills, statistical / forecasting proficiency.
