Director, Financial Well-Being Design

The Community Impact and Investing (CI&I) team at Capital One is looking for a Director to lead the Financial Well-Being Design team. We seek people with unparalleled talent. As a member of our broader CI&I and External Affairs teams, the Director will lead the development and implementation of Capital One’s philanthropic and community strategy for financial well-being. The successful candidate will oversee a team that manages the company’s financial well-being national partnerships, national programs, financial education and partnerships with lines of business. Qualified candidates will have expertise in credit and financial capability, grant-making, knowledge of issues impacting community development, and a strong working knowledge of nonprofit program operations. Candidates will have strong public speaking, program development and strategic planning skills.
 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement national financial well-being strategy and programs related to credit building, savings, debt management, credit counseling and digital banking with national and local non-profits serving low and moderate income and underserved population

  • Partner with local impact teams to connect national strategy to local partnerships and drive programs that are scalable across Capital One’s footprint

  • Identify partners and manage external relationships and strategic grantmaking with national financial well-being organizations, credit counseling agencies, industry groups and national and local thought leaders to advance Capital One’s mission

  • Serve as consultant to Lines of Business to connect financial well-being resources across the Enterprise, facilitate discussions regarding emerging trends, issues and best practices and support the financial well-being of customers and associates

  • Collaborator and convener of financial well-being resources and information within Capital One to support the integration and growth of financial health and to build an Enterprise-wide Financial Well-Being narrative

  • Manage financial well-being team responsible for delivering financial well-being programs and the creation and deployment of financial education materials and training for the Enterprise

  • Develop high impact programs to increase the capacity of credit counseling agencies and industry to better serve the needs of their clients. 

  • Collaborate with CI&I senior management to identify emerging trends, issues and best practices

  • Demonstrate consistently high quality grant administration, communications, reporting, and measurement systems

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence by holding grantees accountable for meeting stated goals and objectives. Provide support and consulting to grantees to help them be successful

  • Represent Capital One externally

  • Negotiate conference and other sponsorships for maximum return, and engage colleagues to advance departmental learning

  • National Travel around 25% 

  • Other duties as assigned

A successful candidate will have the following experience and skills: 

  • In-depth knowledge of credit and financial counseling and community development fields, including emerging practices, best practices, outcome measurement and evaluation

  • Outstanding leadership, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to produce succinct, compelling presentations for high-level executives, and to keep multitude of stakeholders informed

  • Superior partnership building and relationship management skills. Demonstrated success in achieving “win-win,” measurable outcomes partnerships

  • Exceptional project management skills

  • Experience in managing large scale projects, metrics measurement, analysis, and reporting

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multitask

  • Working knowledge of Community Reinvestment Act

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of experience creating and presenting information to an executive audience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Business, or Communications

  • At least 5 years of grant management experience
