The Accounting team seeks to support Sovrn growth by ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and a strong and sustainable internal control environment. About the Job

The Director, Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting is responsible for managing internal and external reporting needs, performing technical accounting research, and preparing memorandums and whitepapers for technical accounting matters affecting the Company. This role will experience collaborating across the organization.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead and develop a small growing team, responsible for hiring, on-boarding, mentoring and retaining a team of technical accountants. 
  • Preparation of annual and periodic financial statements and related footnote disclosures ensuring presentation and disclosures are in accordance with US GAAP. 
  • Solicit, analyze and maintain supporting documentation for disclosures incorporated in external reporting documents to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Support multiple subsidiary financial reporting and consolidation. 
  • Oversee complex technical accounting matters, including carrying out research and documentation for a variety of complete and non-standard transactions (i.e mergers and acquisitions, debt offerings, and adoption of new standards).
  • Review journal entries and account reconciliations for technical areas. 
  • Complete purchase accounting and post acquisition integrations for business combinations. 
  • Work cross functionally to improve systems and our control environment to support the Company’s growth and overall public company readiness.
  • Accounting for stock-based compensation and complex equity transactions.
  • Manage subsidiary consolidation and transfer pricing procedures. 
  • Oversight of weekly cash forecast reporting.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper internal controls and processes are in place and are consistently being monitored. 
  • Assist with compliance of local, state, and federal tax reporting and filing requirements. 
  • Ad hoc projects as necessary.

About You

You are a high-energy, detail-oriented person with a passion for financial reporting and accounting. You have experience and expertise in general and technical accounting gained in a combination of public accounting and private company experience. We value committed, detail-oriented and thoughtful individuals who bring operational excellence as well as a creative, mindful approach to their work.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Professional accounting experience leading a high performing team in a fast scaling organization.
  • Lead and develop a small growing team, responsible for hiring, on-boarding, mentoring and retaining a team of technical accountants. 
  • Skills to motivate the team to achieve organizational objectives and to develop and implement a timeline to achieve goals and objectives. 
  • Public accounting experience.
  • CPA required.
  • A thorough understanding of US GAAP.
  • Experience working with international subsidiaries and transfer pricing.
  • Experience reviewing, preparing and reconciling multi-currency, intercompany consolidation accounts.
  • Experience with NetSuite and advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • An aptitude and eagerness for working in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions of the organization. We’re looking for someone with strategic and operational financial experience who understands the needs of an evolving organization.
  • Proactively review current procedures and make recommendations for improvements with consideration to the key stakeholders in the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented; strong attention to detail.

Compensation and Benefits

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the approximate compensation range for this role in Boulder, Colorado is $145,000 to $165,000, including base salary and any related bonuses or commissions. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location.
