Job Description
Independently manages team responsibilities, establishing direction and prioritizing efforts. Oversees multiple and highly complex business activities, often with senior managers and managers as direct reports. Demonstrates broad perspective and critical thinking that is cross-functional, extending beyond area(s) of responsibility. Challenges the status quo by evaluating situations from multiple facets. Demonstrates leadership in managing staff by providing insight and direction as it relates to training, development, and performance. Develops relationships, expanding leadership influence to accomplish results through others. Responsible for the design and operating effectiveness of the control environment within the area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
Ensures timely and accurate compliance with company’s tax filing obligations. Ensures legislative changes and planning initiatives are incorporated in tax filings. Evaluates enacted changes in tax legislation, case law, and company operations to ensure timely and accurate tax accounting. Prepares accurate FIN 48 and FAS 5 Reserves, documents, monitors, and adjusts reserves as needed. Performs monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities for accurate balance sheet and P&L tax accounts.
Provides staff oversight to successfully manage federal, state, and international tax audit. Sustains positions claimed on tax returns and minimizes audit adjustments. Prepares technical tax briefs and tax analysis to refute audit findings. Represents the company before Tax Authorities and Administrative Appeals. Maintains good relationships with tax auditors and Government Officials.
Identifies and executes strategic and operational tax planning initiatives to efficiently manage and lower the ETR and save cash taxes. Provides alternatives to proposed transactions to minimize tax exposures. Evaluates tax planning opportunities, organic or external, and provides recommendations to management. Analyzes proposed legislation, determine its impact on company operations, and suggests strategies to minimize any negative consequences.
Serves as Tax SME to the business units with respect to tax and non-tax driven strategic and operational projects and initiatives. Prepares tax research, documents tax positions taken, and answers tax questions posed by the business units. Stays abreast of tax developments that impact the company. Educates the company and provides guidance on the impact of new tax law changes.
Provides guidance and support to managers and staff to maximize performance and promote professional development. Promotes a risk award culture to mitigate risk and to ensure compliance with bank regulatory requirements, SOX, and operational controls. Provides direction and oversight to managers and staff to ensure that the department’s business objectives and the individual development plans are achieved. Engages and manages outside accountants and lawyers. Ensures that expenses fall within budgets and that company policies are followed.
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
8+ years of experience in Taxation within a large public company or a large accounting agency, including people management
Preferred Qualifications

J.D. in Taxation
Master's Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field
12+ years of experience in Taxation within a large public company or a large accounting agency, including people management
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
