The Director of Accounting, EMEA, will play a key role in GumGum’s international growth strategy and will be a key-contributor in building out our shared-services operations in EMEA.
The Director of Accounting, EMEA reports to the CFO EMEA while staying closely aligned with GumGum’s Principal Accounting Officer and our Director of Accounting in the USA.
You will primarily be responsible for managing the accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance and payroll functions for our EMEA legal entities, which currently are the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Poland. This role requires someone who is proactive, self-directed and team oriented with strong GAAP and IFRS experience and the resourcefulness to take on a variety of assignments.
You will initially lead a team of three in the Netherlands.
Responsibilities
- The main tasks & responsibilities of the role are focused around accounting operations, reporting, tax and internal control and compliance, which includes:
- Oversee the monthly accounting close and financial reporting cycles; continuously drive to improve processes for scalability and complexity
- Manage the external audit processes and annual filings by gathering and help preparing all supporting documentation requested
- Oversee the timely filings of all tax, statutory and associated local filings for each legal entity while coordinating with external providers
- Support in preparing and filing tax returns (VAT and CIT) together with external providers
- Oversee and assist with the creation and maintenance of accounting schedules, reconciliations, roll-forwards and associated monthly adjusting journal entries
- Build out and maintain controls around the process of recording and reconciling capitalized software and publisher commissions
- Oversee the “SOX-ready” compliance for all international entities; work to strengthen internal controls and ensure the control environment is operating effectively and efficiently
- Support the development and implementation of new internal control measures and testing existing internal controls.
- Assist with international M&A activity, including financial due diligence, planning, purchase accounting and financial systems integration
- Advise on internal and external developments (for example changes in legislation and regulations) and trends in relevant tax issues
- Assist in establishing company pension plan
- Guide & communicate with multiple levels of internal customers and external vendors
- Support management team with ad hoc requests and be a partner to the business leaders
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including in a leadership role at a multi-national company
- Experience managing annual and statutory audits
- Relevant education and expertise in accounting and tax matters
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, Dutch GAAP and IFRS
- Strong knowledge of internal controls and SOX
- Excellent working knowledge of ERP systems such as NetSuite or similar
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations and experience dealing with various tax authorities and relevant government agencies in EMEA
- MS office with advanced Excel skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English.
