Commission Accountant

Work Remotely from Oregon, Washington, Idaho or Utah

Primary Job Purpose

A Commission Accountant supports the payment of commissions to agents by processing commission activities, providing excellent customer service and support to external agents/agencies and internal departments, maintenance of agent files and systems and verification of commission information.

General Functions and Outcomes

  • Administers and maintains agent commission activities that facilitate accurate and timely commission payments to agents. Such activities include building and editing group and individual commission arrangements, running SQL queries, processing manual payments, and term and transfer requests.
  • Researches, documents and communicates resolutions to external and internal business partners for all inquiries regarding the agent commission and payment processes.
  • Examines commission system for upstream processes that may impact the accuracy or timeliness of commission payment. Works with internal business partners to identify and correct inaccurate configuration and/or system information.
  • Troubleshoots commission system problems, submits service requests and documentation when necessary and assures service requests are properly completed.
  • Reviews commission system exception reporting and investigates occurrences to resolve commission setup errors.
  • Participates and works with the State Department of Insurance on audits of agent information and compliance with State regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures commission payments are administered effectively in full compliance with rules and regulations of applicable Departments of Insurance.
  • Meets or exceeds all stated performance production quality and throughput metrics.
  • Contributes to company quality initiatives and encourages process improvements that strengthen team and departmental activities.
  • Actively participates in establishment and maintenance of policies and procedures related to commission payment activities.
  • Provides written and oral status reports on all assigned tasks, including problem identification and resolution, changes in delivery dates, and all related activity in an accurate and timely manner.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience using a variety of personal computer software applications to perform general administrative functions. Experience should include Intermediate to Advanced Excel, Word, email and calendaring software.
  • General office practices and procedures.
  • Process detailed data in an accurate manner
  • Provide excellent customer service both internally and externally
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels both internally and externally
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion in confidential matters
  • Identify and prioritize workload to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and demonstrated multi-tasking capability
  • Apply mathematical principles

Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above

A Commission Accountant requires a BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 0-2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior commissions work related experience preferred.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment.
  • Travel throughout the region as required.
