Overview
Manage and support the underwriting function in alignment with department policies, practices and standards. Responsible for pipeline management, loan quality, personnel, and deal structuring of complex mortgage transactions.
Must be able to work onsite in our Cary, NC office.
Job Description

  • Manage underwriting staff, including hiring, counseling, training
  • Ensure underwriting service levels are achieved
  • Ensure underwriting quality meets company and investor standards
  • Work with senior lending professionals to assist in structuring complex mortgage transactions where required
  • Continuously evaluate processes to ensure application of best practices and maximize staff utilization
  • Provide training as needed to underwriting staff ensuring that all staff are adequately informed of program guidelines and underwriting practices
  • Analyze and evaluate profit, volume, and service results for assigned producers
  • Provide support to production staff regarding underwriting and credit policy matters
  • Complete second reviews of loan files and resolve exception cases
  • Monitor performance from a production and quality perspective to uphold requirements and core values
  • Ensure adherence to credit policy, all updates and mandatory company training
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned
  • Demonstrate behaviors which are aligned with the organization's desired culture and values

Ideal Candidate will have the following:

  • 7+ years managing underwriters in a retail or correspondent lending environment
  • Experience underwriting FNMA/FHLMC, VA, FHA and jumbo loans
  • Current and extensive knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, and VA program guidelines
  • Experience analyzing financial statements for high-net worth borrowers
  • A thorough understanding of cash flow methodology for complex tax returns including, but not limited to, partnerships, corporations, S-corporations, as well as treatment of capital gains and trust income
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
