Overview

The AVP Accounting- special projects actively manages the Controllership participation and support of the GMF insurance projects and various other strategic and tactical initiatives. This team member will assist in the assessment of the initiatives, which may include the implementation of new or updated business models, processes and/or systems, and determines the associated impact to the Controllership department. This team member is then responsible for helping manage to completion within assigned deadlines, budgets and functionality requirements. The AVP identifies needs, constraints and risks, system requirements and needed resources. This position identifies team needs and assigns tasks and responsibilities within the project management group, and works closely with members of the larger Controllership team when subject matter expertise is required. A primary objective of this position is to absorb work from other Controllership team members wherever possible.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Serve as liaison for the Controllership department with other areas of the Company regarding new and existing projects and product development
  • Organize project status, priorities and business trends for communication to the Controllership management team
  • Determine business and accounting procedures and create complex workflows
  • Support implementation of system or process change requests, as necessary
  • Coordinate and manage projects using best practices and experience
  • Support the identification of resource needs for projects; establish roles, expectations and goals with identified Controllership team members
  • Proactively manage responsibilities for assigned projects, tasks, milestones and budgets
  • Support creation of cost estimates and development of proposals for new products and initiatives
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting-related processes and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Conform with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Oracle reporting tools required
  • Knowledge of Project Management Methodologies and related tools
  • Experience with fleet management concepts and systems preferred
  • Understand how to develop and execute a test script and document findings
  • Background with automated financial accounting and reporting systems
  • Background with accounting processes that support financial accounting and reporting
  • Understand software development processes
  • Expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, CPA or equivalent internationally
  • Strong knowledge of the Accounting Standards Codification
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Strong knowledge of financial controls and account reconciliations

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience required


Experience

  • Background with accounting processes that support financial accounting and reporting
  • Expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, CPA or equivalent
  • 5-7 years management and/or leadership experience required
  • 5-7 years experience working with ERP systems, preferably Oracle required
  • 7-10 years experience in auto finance industry required


Working Conditions

  • Normal, fast-paced office environment
  • Flexible schedule with possibility of working long hours including weekends/holidays, overtime or split shifts may be required
  • Limited travel may be required to support business needs
  • Strong focus on providing quality service to internal and external customers
  • Must be able to deal with stressful office conditions while troubleshooting problems
