Assurance Senior Director (Accounting Standards Group)
RSM is looking for a Senior Director to join our Accounting Standards Group (ASG), a component of the firm's National Professional Standards Group (NPSG). This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about contributing to thought leadership, consulting on complex accounting and reporting matters, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and building trusted relationships.
Location Flexibility:
RSM has offices in more than 90 locations throughout the US and Canada. RSM's candidate search for this position is nationwide.
Responsibilities:
- Consult with engagement teams, alliance firms, members of the NPSG and industry technical leaders on complex accounting and financial reporting matters
- Monitor and report on the standard-setting activities of the FASB, PCC and IASB, within the individual's areas of expertise including drafting of the Firm's comment letters in response to proposed accounting standards updates
- Function as a subject matter expert or specialist on various accounting topics Assist in developing the Firm's interpretive guidance, external publications and educational training courses
- Provide timely, high quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations
- Collaborate with other members of NPSG, the assurance, tax and consulting practices to develop guidance and enable others to address emerging practice issues and Firm initiatives
- Develop others within NPSG through mentoring, training and advising on career development or participating in other Firm initiatives
- Ensure professional development through ongoing education
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- Active CPA license
- Minimum of 10 years of current or recent experience in a public accounting, financial reporting or technical accounting capacity
- Broad working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Excellent accounting research skills
- Excellent command of accounting for income taxes (ASC 740) and comfortable consulting on the topic
- Exhibit an exceptional client service attitude, possess outstanding people skills and take a proactive approach in working with employees
- Excellent communication skills - verbal, written and presentation
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/consultations simultaneously
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the year for teaching and other training programs, client service support, team meetings, various projects and work streams of the ASG/NPSG and participation with professional organizations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deep experience in other complex accounting areas, including leases, variable interest entities and debt modifications
- Experience with public company accounting and reporting
- Knowledgeable of IFRS (at a minimum the significant differences between IFRS and U.S. GAAP in those accounting topics in which you possess deep expertise)
