The Underwriting and Portfolio Management organization is responsible for working with internal partners to underwrite cash flow leveraged loan transactions. As an Analyst, you’ll work with originators and senior underwriters to evaluate borrowers, structure credit facilities, manage the credit approval process,
and negotiate credit agreements and other loan documentation. Our Underwriters balance supporting the Commercial’s Bank’s growth and ensuring we have a scalable, well-managed business.
This role supports the Diversified Industries group. Capital One’s Diversified Industries group provides leveraged financing solutions to medium to large companies (either public, private or sponsor-backed) for leveraged buyouts, corporate growth, refinancings and recapitalizations. The Diversified Industries
portfolio consists of over 350 clients and $18 billion in credit exposure.
As an Analyst, you understand fundamental credit risk management and are able to identify risks and mitigants in a deal. You have oversight from more experienced members of the team, but contribute to transactions in a meaningful way. This includes financial statement analysis, underwriting due diligence, approval and documentation.
Primary underwriting responsibilities may include:
Underwrite leveraged debt transactions to new or existing clients
Perform due diligence on industry and company performance; synthesize research and begin to draw conclusions
Analyze financial statements and spreads for credit strengths and risks; provide recommendations to mitigate risks
Prepare financial models with guidance from senior underwriters on projection assumptions
Write and help prepare credit approval documents; participate in presentations to credit officers
Work with internal partners to assist with closing process requirements
Additional Responsibilities may include:
Build relationships across function and business to foster collaboration between partner groups
Mentor and train rotational analysts and new hires
Participate in internal initiatives to ensure the business is well-managed and operates efficiently
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience
At least 1 year of experience in financial statement analysis
At least 1 year of experience in financial modeling
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant fields
Previous experience in underwriting or portfolio or asset management
Completed coursework or training in credit risk management
