What You'll Do:

  • Duties:
  • General Ledger:

  • Run the month-end close process, manage the US corporate general ledger and produce a monthly reporting package. 
  • Set and maintain the consolidated close calendar and meet deadlines of various financial reporting requirements.
  • Perform Balance Sheet and P&L fluctuation analysis and monthly expense variance analysis.
  • Review all monthly Balance Sheet account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and compliance with internal policies.
  • Payroll:

  • Act as an internal subject-matter expert for payroll-related projects, topics, and tasks, including but not limited to improvements to internal policies and procedures to ensure scalability.
  • Oversee multi-state payrolls for all categories of employees
  • Understand and interact with payroll processing system (Paylocity) for payroll and benefits as a back-up to payroll staff. 
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on employee onboarding and offboarding processes that impact payroll; and comp/benefits/tax issues.
  • Ensure proper set-up with state registrations on an as needed basis.
  • Maintain compliance with state and local tax jurisdictions- monitoring state, provincial, and local registrations for payroll taxes, local health and state unemployment insurance, workers compensation, etc.
  • Manage review, accrual and payment of quarterly commissions/bonuses; assist Controller in accounting for these payments in accordance with the requirements of ASC 340.
  • Accounts Payable:

  • Supervise A/P accountant and review weekly payment runs (Tipalti), W9 records, vendor aging, bank transfers, foreign currency transactions, etc. 
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations, manage cash balances, interact with Silicon Valley Bank to set up new features as needed.
  • Audit / Tax: 

  • Assist Controller in managing the annual financial statement audit and work closely with external auditors to bring the global audit to close.
  • Assist Controller by working with company tax advisors to complete annual and periodic federal and state tax filings. 
  • Assist Controller in managing the 401k, bank and other compliance audits.
  • Ensure accurate, timely tax filings of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns and other business related filings.
  • Consolidation:

  • Interact with the international aspects of the business, working with the EMEA Controller/Accounting team to record and co-manage the intercompany transactions and balances between entities.
  • Special Projects:

  • Work with Controller on setting up finance systems, processes and policies to add efficiency and support the growth of the business.
  • Other Projects as needed (which there will be many)

Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Masters/MBA or CPA a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years prior accounting experience including hands-on operating experience producing financial statements ideally within a venture-backed enterprise software and/or SaaS company. Prior audit experience helpful.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes. Knowledge of how payroll transactions affect the GL, and ability to reconcile Payroll accounts.
  • Proficient with Google Workspace apps, Excel and payroll systems such as Paylocity, ADP, Workday. Experience with Sage Intacct and Tipalti, a plus.
  • Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to think strategically and act operationally
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, risk, and the evolving direction of projects and strategies.
  • Strong leadership skills; ability to resolve conflicts and maintain confidentiality with high ethical standards.
  • Understanding, yet persuasive and decisive when dealing with others in the organization. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner. Able to prioritize and work with multiple members of leadership including the Controller, VP of Finance and CFO.
  • Responsive team player with ability to quickly prioritize among numerous pressing tasks
  • Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product and accountable for performance of staff.
