Southern Company Services (SCS) currently has a position available in our accounting department located at our corporate office in Birmingham, AL. This position is an integral part of a team that performs traditional accounting, billing, and financial & regulatory reporting. Read on to learn more about this exciting opportunity!

Position Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field of study.
• CPA or CPA candidate highly preferred. An advanced degree is desired.
• Minimum of 2 years of recent general accounting experience (public accounting experience preferred); including experience in financial reporting and financial statement preparation.
• Knowledge of the following:
• Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Securities and Exchange Commission rules and regulations
• Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance requirements
• Federal Energy Regulatory Commission accounting rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including working with people at all levels, and across multiple functions and multiple company locations.

Job Responsibilities

• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of journals with appropriate support in order to ensure timely month-end closing and integrity of financials.
• Complete account reconciliations by scheduled due date and ensure adequate supporting documentation is included with the reconciliation.
• Prepare management analysis report of accruals, deferred debits/credits, balance sheet and cash flow analysis, etc.
• Prepare annual and quarterly external audit requests, as needed, ensuring timely response and maintenance of a good working relationship with auditors.
• Promote innovation, improve repetitive processes, and create efficiencies in a dynamic workflow environment.
