Role Snapshot

Do you have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting?

Do you live in the Madison, WI area and would like a hybrid role with the frequent trips to the Madison campus?

If so, this role is for you!

The Financial Reporting Accountant will assist in the daily, monthly, quarterly and annual preparation of supporting financial information for WPS financial statement schedules to be used by external and internal stakeholders. In addition, the Financial Reporting Accountant will assist in analysis of historical financial performance.

  • General ledger entries related to assigned revenue and/or expense areas and maintain audit support for related entries and accruals.
  • Analysis of company revenues and expenses and provide reasoning for month-to-month and year over year changes.
  • General ledger account reconciliations and audit support for balances.
  • Accounting policy and procedure documentation
  • Provide assistance in the preparation of WPS and subsidiary companies monthly financial statements and management reports, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, for use by external and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of statutory financial statements in compliance with statutory accounting guidelines.
  • Assist with regulatory filings, including but not limited to: annual 1099 reporting, Unclaimed Property, Schedule 5500A, CMS Medicare Part D- HPMS, etc.
  • Ad-hoc analysis and projects as requested.
  • Continuous focus on identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Ensure clear and concise communications with other finance and operational departments and external vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent post high school and/or related work experience
  • Must be CPA eligible
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and related Microsoft Office products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some Accounting experience and a desire to gain more
  • Excellent reading comprehension, written communication, calculation, presentation, and interpersonal skillsets.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).
  • A high level of confidence, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.

Work Location

Must live in the Madison, WI area. This role is being offered as a hybrid role with the frequent trips to the Madison campus
