The Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with a profound technical background and a proven passion for global team leadership. This strategic leader will be tasked with fostering engineering excellence, and continuous innovation across their teams. You will guide high-performing, globally distributed teams, driving their career growth and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, highly scalable solutions. 

Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, this role is responsible for leading initiatives across our platforms, specifically managing teams based in Poland and India. You will serve as a critical partner to Product, SRE and Architecture teams in Poland, India and Canada directly impacting the execution of our product vision and strategic roadmap. 

The individual in this role will head and drive two distinct teams:

The Booking Engine team has engineered a world-class flight booking engine, delivering a robust, NDC-compliant travel platform. This sophisticated solution seamlessly manages flight reservations, including comprehensive ancillary booking and facilitates flexible itinerary management. The platform serves as a proprietary mini-Global Distribution System (mini-GDS), tailored to meet the complex operational demands of the world's largest travel brands and Online Travel Agencies (OTA’s).

The Gateway team designs and manages the foundational architecture that provides seamless and scalable access to airline content. The team provides entrusted solutions with delivering data efficiently and reliably, while strictly ensuring the critical security of both ingress and egress traffic. The team mandate is to sustain the highest standards of performance, uptime, and robust security posture to guarantee the success of airline content management operations.


Requirements
  • Global Leadership: Lead and mentor a geographically distributed team of talented engineers, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive environment across multiple continents.
  • Strategy & Delivery: Partner with the Director of Engineering and Product teams to rigorously define project scope, accurately break down complex requirements, and successfully deliver on the product roadmap.
  • Technical Excellence: Actively contribute to technical discussions and decisions, guaranteeing that the team delivers clean, high-quality, and well-tested code built for maximum scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Process Optimization: Implement and rigorously manage best practices for the entire software development lifecycle, including robust version control, unit testing, and continuous delivery (CI/CD) mechanisms.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for the engineering team, effectively communicating status and strategy with stakeholders and cross-functional teams across various geographic locations.
  • Execution Oversight: Oversee the daily workflow, ensuring projects remain on schedule and proactively removing technical or organizational roadblocks.
  • Talent Management: Drive the professional development of team members by providing consistent coaching, performance feedback, and clearly defined paths for career progression through personalized plans.
  • Talent Acquisition: Play an active role in the recruitment process, including interviewing and successfully onboarding new engineers to the team.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion initiatives to continuously enhance team processes, elevate product quality, and maximize overall operational efficiency.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Leadership Acumen: A people-focused leader with the proven ability to inspire and motivate a highly technical workforce.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in software development, including at least 4 years in a dedicated leadership or engineering management capacity.
  • Domain Focus: Previous experience within a high-volume SaaS, e-commerce platform is highly desirable.
  • Team Management: Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams and collaborate effectively with diverse cross-functional stakeholders; experience leading and managing distributed teams is a significant asset.
  • Development Practices: Strong command of modern software development methodologies, including Agile, CI/CD, and robust testing strategies.
  • Technical Stack: Expertise in .NET Core and a solid understanding of Golang, PostgreSQL and GCP or other related technologies; Experience with API design.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the travel industry or major Global Distribution Systems (GDS) platforms (e.g., Travelport, Amadeus, Sabre, etc.) as well as PCI compliance standards and the governence required for protecting Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is a definite plus.
