The Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) Platform Lead is responsible for engineering and mission assurance (MA) activities associated with all platform (non-payload) subsystems within WGS space vehicles. The selected candidate will primarily focus on the development of WGS-11, supporting the program from Critical Design Review (CDR) through launch. Candidates will interface regularly with the government, contractor, Engineering and Technology Group (ETG), and Aerospace leaders to provide risk assessments and mitigation strategies. The candidate will also act as a liaison to diverse stakeholder communities including those from launch, ground, cyber, PMP, contracts, and others. As WGS is a small program office, successful candidates will be expected to perform tasks outside of their traditional responsibilities, if needed. The position favors self-starters comfortable taking initiative with a positive attitude.
What You’ll be Doing
· Monitoring the prime contractor’s (Boeing’s) activities on all satellite platform subsystems
· Facilitating the government/contractor relationship by advising the government and communicating needs to the contractor
· Support government assessment of program progress through design reviews, build phase, and testing milestones
· Coordinating with Aerospace ETG on assessments of proposed designs, plans, tests and status updates
· Building and maintaining effective working relationships with the government and contractor
· Identifying, assessing, and communicating risks to the government and Aerospace leadership, proposing effective mitigations as needed
· Managing studies that support MA activities
· Coordinating with external stakeholders to ensure readiness of non-space segments, including launch and ground
This position is available as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer
What You’ll Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in engineering, science, or similar technical discipline
· Typically, eight or more years of relevant experience focused on space vehicle subsystem design, development, test and integration
· Capability of conducting technical reviews and resultant recommendations
· This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
What You’ll Need to be Successful (Senior Project Engineer)
Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in engineering, science, or similar technical discipline
· Typically, twelve or more years of relevant experience focused on space vehicle development, test and integration, launch, and/or sustainment
· Track record of leading technical reviews and producing/briefing results to customers
· This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
· Prior experience working with space vehicles on National Security Space missions
