The Opportunity:

Reporting to the EVP, Chief Product Officer, the VP, Software Engineering is responsible for leading a high performing Software Engineering organization of over 400+ professionals on a global scale while directing and managing multiple diverse teams of engineering professionals in several countries performing research, development, design and/or implementation of products, services, solutions. This is a transformational, highly visible, and impactful senior leadership role, that will lead a global Software Engineering function to design, build and deliver high quality, secure and scalable applications in a timely manner across the OpenText portfolio.

The role will focus on establishing and improving partner and customer facing and internal program & project methodologies driven by customer and program analytics. This role requires the ability to create and communicate the technical strategy within the organization and/or across the function while keeping security at the forefront. Experience with data-driven and/or machine learning systems will also be a significant asset.

What You're Great At:

  • As a critical member of the SMB/C Leadership team, this role supports the long-term strategic roadmap for the software engineering organization focusing on driving growth, transformation & innovation
  • Oversee program direction including governance & reporting, prioritization and ROI
  • Turn direction into detailed program plans, coordinate execution and report progress against the key milestones and KPIs
  • Hire, retain, manage, and coach the leaders and future leaders of Engineering team while managing headcount to the budget
  • Provide technical leadership to ensure sound architectural design and software development
  • Detailed resource planning of key engineering projects while being accountable for on-time and on-budget delivery of release goals
  • Ability to work well through ambiguity, confidence in making tough calls and leading through adversity
  • The role is responsible for overseeing large, diverse Engineering teams, partnering with product management, architecture, delivery, data & analytics, and live operations teams to design and build out the next generation industry solutions
  • Manages Headcount, deliverables and schedule for the organization ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated, and that Goals, Objectives, Timelines and Budget are met
  • Work with PR and marketing teams to drive thought leadership around cyber security and data protection with magazines, press, tv interviews
  • Own & drive the end-to-end development effort for on-time, high-quality, highly scalable technical solutions that meet the product vision. Responsibilities span all phases of product development including:
    • Collaborating and aligning with architects and platform teams on proper architecture and design
    • Innovate and champion the application of new technologies like AI and Machine learning into the portfolio
    • Partnering with product management to ensure completeness and common understanding of product vision, roadmap & requirements.
    • Leading agile engineering teams to deliver end to end technical solutions that meet and exceed product expectations.

What It Takes:

  • 15+ years of experience leading Global Engineering teams in collaborative and matrix organization
  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical ideas to a business audience is as critical as the understanding of, and experience in, leading talented research and engineering teams
  • Strong project management skills with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to influence others
  • Demonstrated leadership experience setting the vision and building, leading and motivating software engineering teams. Leads by example with creativity, strategic thinking, and innovation
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coordinate resources outside of direct management to support strategies and initiatives to build alignment.
  • Possesses strong combination of strategic thinking, detailed tactical planning and project management expertise
  • Ability to communicate complete information (verbal and written) in a clear concise manner with strong executive presence
  • Results oriented with a proven track record of success leading an engineering team in a dynamic, frequently changing entrepreneurial environment where management of complex and often conflicting product requirements is a critical driver of success
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work across multiple silos within the organization and lead cross functional teams to successful outcomes, including an ability to address complex situations into actionable plans
  • Strong organization skills: ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced and complex environment
  • Ability to see and communicate the big picture across multiple projects
  • Identify and comprehend business changes quickly and communicate to executive/business sponsors
