Job Overview:

The Engineering Lead is responsible for leading a variety of engineering activities including the design, product certification, deployment of hardware, software and network infrastructure in coordination with the Technology team.

This role is responsible for supporting our VMware NSX environment including the implementation and ongoing support for internal and hybrid cloud, NSX environment builds and maintenance, and troubleshooting of the network virtualization infrastructure. Additional responsibilities include working with automation and updating products to install and maintain security updates and patches. A solid understanding of networking and knowledge of VMware NSX is a must for this position along with experience working in a large environment with a strong DevOps and SRE focus.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring network reliability and availability through well-planned and implemented solutions
  • Improving network manageability and scalability
  • Developing, maintaining, and supporting networks in NSX/NSX-T
  • Monitoring the automation of network deployment and configuration, along with the integration of infrastructure (computer/storage) automation
  • Monitoring integration with other software-defined networking technologies
  • Supporting Build and Operational functions in Continuous Integration/Deployment, Provisioning, Orchestration, Configuration Management and Monitoring
  • Effectively handle issues and escalations, as well as resolve production problems, reporting to management on status and technical matters
  • Planning and execution of regular maintenance activities to continuously increase efficiency and scalability and improve speed of deployment
  • Provide Root Cause Analysis (RCA) post restoration of service
  • Provide technical/strategic direction to team members
  • Review requirement documents, define hardware requirements and update processes and procedures as necessary
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with audit and regulatory requirements for financial sector



Qualifications/Technical Skills:

  • 5+ years' experience working with VMware on enterprise level with strong focus on network virtualization (VCP-NV and VCP-DCV certifications a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of core networking topics such as TCP/IP routing & switching, SSL/TLS, and layer-4/layer-7 load balancing tools & techniques for web applications and services
  • Experience working with network overlay technologies like VXLAN, OTV and EVPN/BGP
  • Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking tools and technologies (e.g., Ethernet, IP, ARP, ping, traceroute)
  • Understanding of standards-based routing protocols (OSPF and BGP)
  • Understanding of core load balancing principles as well as Transport and Application Layer principles (persistence, monitoring [TCP, HTTP, HTTPS], cookies, etc.)
  • Understanding of network-based security (e.g., access lists) and security concepts (black list vs. white list)
  • Familiarity with container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, OpenShift) including Container lifecycle, pods, services, controllers, API, storage, security, networking, load balancing
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and OpenShift network policy, ingress/egress control, service meshes
  • Knowledge of challenges and solutions around network security topics such as firewalls, micro segmentation, and 'zero trust' approaches to network security
  • Understanding of container runtime application architectures and methodologies including microservices, self-healing stateless applications, and serverless architectures
  • Familiarity with CI-CD pipeline workflow and tools involved (bitbucket, Jenkins, Artifactory, etc)
  • Working knowledge of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS cloud architectures and the capabilities and challenges involved with their implementation in cloud environment
  • Passion for working with new technologies and a strong desire to always be looking for better solutions to problems
  • Bonus if experience building and maintaining monitoring solutions for vSphere/NSX using vRealize Operations (VROPS) for reporting, troubleshooting, and capacity planning


Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience
