In this newly created leadership role, you will be accountable for driving the Engineering for the Unified Search product to deliver on our search 3.0 needs. You will be responsible for combining different source systems handling different pieces of the puzzle. Core indexing and query federation in a heterogenous environment are essential to success.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within United States as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Create consumption patterns for both providers and consumers of search data throughout the search ecosystem
  • Own 'The HOW' - How technology is implemented for our search platforms
  • Own the full stack: from infrastructure and API's to monitoring and uptime
  • Own the feedback loop to monitor health, efficacy and accuracy of the system and builds systems to utilize this data to improve the platform
  • Own the security stack to ensure we remove all chances of access control issues, data base compromise, and other attacks
  • Own the infrastructure and application architecture required for maintaining 99.999% availability of our search services
  • Own the scalability of our solutions (we need to be able to support low latency queries over frequently changing multi modal data sources)
  • Own the thought leadership for educating the rest of the organization on how to make their systems "searchable" by integrating with the core platform
  • Review current and emerging technical innovations to identify product, customer, and full stack technology impacts

Required Qualifications:
  • 15 + years of engineering and leadership experience
  • 4 + years of experience working in the public cloud building Search, NLP or ML based solutions
  • Demonstrated experience delivering data focused, highly reliable, high scale systems
  • Deep experience securing systems at scale
  • Understanding core machine learning ideas and an ability to work with data science partners
  • Experience working with consumer facing applications and building systems that scale
  • Experience building platforms and platform ecosystems
  • Proven ability to influence the technical choices of other/partner organizations
  • Experience managing people and budgets
  • Experience utilizing open source technology and solutions
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Startup experience
  • Experience building commercial products
  • Experience delivering Machine Learning insights into consumer facing applications
  • Experience in successfully driving alignment across organizational lines in large/complex matrixed companies
  • Experience with recommender systems and personalization
  • Experience building low latency ( 1,000/tps)
  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $174,600 to $332,200. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $174,600 to $332,200. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
