WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Traffic Engineer for our MNoffice. This position is best suited for an engineer who is seeking an opportunity to work within a team-focused local office, for a large world-wide engineering firm. Your Impact
The successful candidate will work on transportation and traffic engineering tasks and projects including:
- Transportation safety review and analysis using the Highway Safety Manual in support of the Vision Zero
- Roundabout concept design and analysis
- Capacity analysis
- Signal operations evaluation and recommendations
- Traffic forecasting/projections
- Technical report/traffic study preparation
- Traffic signal timing analysis and implementation/fine tuning
- Traffic signal and signing/pavement marking design
- ITS design, including fiber/wireless communications and devices
- Roadway concept design for turn lanes, intersections, sidewalks and pedestrian facilities
- Bicycle facilities and complete streets design
- Details and special provisions development
- Cost estimate preparations
Job Requirements:
- Demonstrate some experience in a Traffic Engineering- related field and have a strong desire to
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present analytical results and recommendations
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of basic civil engineering theories and principles
- Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Work collaboratively with other engineers, planners, scientific professionals, and DOT authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded road and transportation improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior traffic design experience.
- Desire to bring innovative solutions to our clients
- Self-starter and proactive
- Understanding and familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD and Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Design Guidelines and Standards
- Hands-on experience with traffic engineering software, including Synchro/SimTraffic and HCS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Must be able to work in the United States immediately
- EIT Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification (Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Minnesota)
- Experience in maintenance of traffic design and traffic management plans
- M.S. in Civil Engineering with a focus in Traffic/Transportation Engineering from accredited university
- Experience in traffic signal design
- Experience in ITS design and fiber optic network design
- Experience in intersection, pavement marking, and signing design
- Knowledge of Advanced Traffic Signal Performance Metrics
- Experience with Traffic Signal Controller software
- Working knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCad software
- Knowledge and experience with any of the following software: TransModeler, VISSIM, GuideSign, SignCAD, ArcGIS, Sidra, Microsoft Access
