Vertex, located in Indianapolis, IN is searching for an energetic and highly motivated candidate to lead its Test Engineering organization. The Test Engineering Section Manager is responsible for leading a team of approximately 15+ test engineers in through the full development process from requirements development, design, manufacturing, and shipment of test equipment and hardware. The Test Engineering Section Manager oversees the execution of daily activities to ensure products are of high quality and delivered on-time to its customers. The test engineering products are highly engineered hardware that may be development, production, or depot-repair hardware supporting both internal Vertex and DoD customers. Candidates must exhibit a high degree of initiative and sound judgment, working independently and as a member of an Integrated Product Team. It is essential the individual be capable of adapting to changing conditions and work cooperatively in a team environment.

Additional responsibilities include:• Supporting manufacturing and testing of hardware through the development and validation of tooling concepts, authoring, and maintaining test procedures, defining setup and facility requirements, performing concept and drawing reviews, and resolving producibility concerns• Assist with any preparation of annual operating budgets for the team, including capital requests• Plan and forecast manpower requirements for Test Engineering to support the program and business plans• Monitor daily/weekly/monthly "Work-In-Process"• Identify and implement improvement initiatives for functional and program levels• Oversee Test Engineering staff training and development, perform performance appraisals, monitor health and safety, and section productivity• Promote Lean 6 Sigma activities as a form of continuous improvement• Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures

Required Skills:• Minimum of 10 years related experience in test equipment, systems, software, or hardware engineering• Ability to develop and own strategy for designing and delivering test equipment on time and on budget.• Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining test processes utilizing agile development techniques• Background in Analog, Digital, RF and EO test concepts• Team and / or Project Leadership experience• Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to be adaptable to changing priorities and assignments• Ability to effectively work cross-functionally and influence, advise and direct members outside the direct reporting structure to perform job requirements and meet deadlines• Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance

Desired Skills:• Excellent people management skills including delegation, promoting teamwork, and performance management• Experience with SAP, Production Planning, or Project Management preferred• Ability to stand in as Hardware Engineering Manager as required

Education Requirements:• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) degree program

Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead project teams.

Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience

Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
