The Apparel & Accessories Product Integrity (API) team is a Global organization whose vision is delivering perfect product to every athlete*. API's vision is to catalyze a culture of quality, internally and externally, that delivers elite end-to-end quality management. The API team is composed of four functional areas: the Nike Apparel Lab (NAL), Apparel/Accessories Quality Management (AQM), Partner Quality Management (PQM) and Product Integrity Operations (PIO). API scope of work spans innovation and inline products across material and finished goods.

API is part of the Global Sourcing & Manufacturing function at Nike but is uniquely positioned to influence and partner with team members from Design, Development, Merchandising, Partner Management, Manufacturing Partners, Distribution Partners, and Retail/Accounts. The quality and compliance of Nike products are pivotal to Nike's competitive advantage and the API team ensures athlete satisfaction through focus on Standards, Risk Assessment, Testing, Manufacturing Preparation & Execution, Inspections/Audits, Issue Management, and Marketplace Feedback.

The Nike Apparel Lab (NAL) team within API focuses on assessing, developing, and implementing testing methodologies to support Apparel product innovations, mitigate risk, and ensure consistent product quality that meets athlete expectations.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Test Engineering Director to join the Nike Apparel Lab (NAL) at our headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. This individual will be a leader for the NAL's Integrity Team who will drive the Apparel material and product testing platform strategy and implementation across Nike systems. This leader has high emotional intelligence, leads with curiosity, obsesses about driving innovation and operational excellence, and unlocks testing excellence through a quality lens. You must use strong analytical and storytelling skills to pull out key insights and weave them into strategies that shape and complement key transformational initiatives for the NAL and Apparel global testing space.

The candidate needs to have deep technical understanding of lab test methodologies and extensive experience directing all aspects of test lab operations (e.g. equipment qualification and calibration, training programs, document control systems, management of work). This leader will create and drive strategy for operational and technical excellence on the team. The candidate must also be able to thrive in an ambiguous environment, paying strong attention to detail, while delivering results within tight timeframes. Additionally, the Test Engineering Director is experienced in quality management systems and will serve as our Quality Manager for our ISO 17025 accredited lab-bringing quality systems auditing experience.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
In this role, you will direct work and develop strategies with partner groups at various product creation stages from concepting and innovation through production to identify, develop, and implement testing solutions at speed and a global scale, as well as inform the strategies for the creation of standards and specifications for new products and developing technologies for Nike Apparel materials and product.

You will also develop and drive technical and operational excellence strategies within the Nike Apparel Lab and Nike Apparel's global testing program.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
As a Test Engineering Director in the NAL, you will lead a team of engineers, lab specialists, and operation specialists. The lab team is responsible for providing technical details to define, develop, and implement test methods and procedures for new products and developing technologies and to enable data-driven decision making through expertise, agility, connectivity, and bringing forth advanced solutions.

You will work with various partner groups including Apparel product creation, innovation, and integrity teams to create strategies for testing programs and standards relating to Nike Apparel product. You will be working with internal and external partners to drive the implementation strategy of robust testing procedures on a global scale.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Technology or related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience and training.
  • Minimum 7 years direct relevant work experience, and experienced manager of people.
  • Deep experience with developing and working within quality management systems- preferably with experience as a quality management systems auditor.
  • Excels in, and helps to foster, a collaborative team environment.
  • In-depth understanding and hands-on experience in lab testing discipline, including industry methods.
  • Experience developing strategy for operation, qualifying, and implementing standard and custom test methods required, including the ability to translate test method data to end-use applications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong data presentation and reporting skills, with an ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audience required.
  • Exceptional analytical ability required.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of testing data
  • Project management skills are required.
  • Experienced with developing and maintaining equipment programs.
  • Deep knowledge of lab and safety procedures and capable of establishing new lab testing programs required.
  • Functions well in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to travel approximately 5%.
