The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

As part of the Cloud Mgmt Technical Marketing Team, your work will provide technical guidance to customers, partners, and VMware technical roles to help them implement VMware solutions to deliver business outcomes. Our team has a strong reputation as world-class technologists who communicate complex concepts through a variety of media including documents, videos, labs, and training events. You will be a part of shaping our cloud management solutions and how we bring them to market. To deliver on these expectations, you will be well-supported with resources, tools, and teammates, as part of an expert-filled Technical Marketing group.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • Within the first 3 months, you will be well-versed in our solutions and processes for delivering content within VMware and out to our current and potential customers. You will understand how to collaborate with the various stakeholders with whom you will work both within and outside of Technical Marketing. You will be increasing your technical knowledge of the vRealize Network Insight product and NSX-T suite of products and have identified specific areas of focus to continuously develop subject matter expertise. You will work with other team members on delivering content on solutions focused on the vRealize Network Insight product set.
  • Within 9 months you will be developing meaningful content on your own to show how to deliver business outcomes using vRealize Network Insight. You will publish content to numerous internal and external sites. You will lead internal enablement sessions to technical roles and will be securing a position of influence as a subject matter expert both inside and outside of VMware.
  • Within 12 months you will be helping to drive the direction for vRealize Network Insight content based on the knowledge you will gain on solution strategy, go to market, and what content is effective at producing desired outcomes.



The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • You will impact both the bottom line of the cloud management business and influence the direction of VMware's vRealize Network Insight through working directly with product management, engineering, and product marketing to create content that helps to drive adoption of our solutions.
  • You will contribute to the technical body of knowledge through technical enablement and thought leadership for VMware's vRealize Network Insight product line by producing technical content on solution deployment, architecture, scalability, troubleshooting, implementation, and operational best practices.
  • You will become a widely respected content creator of written and video assets that will be published on both VMware's and other 3rd party sites (e.g., YouTube).
  • You will maintain an extensive lab where demo use cases are built out and presented to the world.
  • As, this role will be focused on technical marketing of vRealize Network Insight which enables critical customer use cases and is sold in conjunction with numerous other VMware products and market motions. We are looking for someone with 8+ years of networking marketing/selling skills.
  • This role will require you to have a deep technical knowledge of networking technologies (both physical and virtual),network management, and public and hybrid cloud. Knowledge of application modernization (e.g., Kubernetes), automation (python, pipelines, PowerShell, etc.) is a plus.



What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The Technical Marketing team is part of the overall Cloud Management Technical and Product Marketing organization. This is a distributed team of about 45 people working in a combination of home offices and VMware locations who are responsible for marketing, technical marketing, proposals, and compete. This role will work from a home office, preferably in a North American or European time zone. The hiring manager is Dave Overbeek, Director, Cloud Management Technical Marketing. Dave has 30 years of industry experience in customer support, systems engineering, and technical marketing. He has been at VMware for 12 years and has excellent relationships across organizations and is well-versed in the culture of VMware.

As part of the Technical and Product Marketing organization, Dave supports employee exploration of the many other functions that surround his team. He sets expectations for his team to contribute to these functions, such as product marketing assets, and internal and partner technical enablement sessions, to develop individual strengths and support growth within VMware.
