The Sensors team is responsible for the development and deployment of all sensors on our autonomous vehicles. As a technical lead manager for LiDARs, you will lead a small, but experienced team of engineers who are specialists in LiDAR systems, modeling, and photonics, being responsible for developing a technology roadmap of next generation LiDARs, proposing initial concepts proved through prototyping, simulations, and design of experiments, and developing architectures of future generation LiDARs.
Your team will work with cross-functional teams to implement the proposed architectures and support them to design sensors that enable reliable level 4/5 autonomous driving in harsh environments. You will be responsible for generating IP portfolios for Cruise. You will work with senior leadership to identify the best strategy of developing LiDARs suitable with the Cruise business plans.
you’ll be doing:
- Develop a technology roadmap of LiDARs for Cruise and communicate it to senior management and executives.
- Provide technical leadership to engineers on the team who investigate future technologies. The team consists of specialists in LiDAR systems, photonics, and physical modeling. Recruit and develop engineers to fill gaps.
- Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams in hardware development, test, algorithm development, sensor platform, systems architecture/engineering, perception, reliability, manufacturing, and global supply chain.
- Collaborate with partners to define requirements and engineering specifications for next generation LiDARs.
- Propose architectures, conduct a full analysis of proposed architectures in terms of performance, functional safety, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and timeline.
- Identify manufacturing partners and suppliers for proposed architectures.
- Lead market analysis and research paper study to be on top of the latest industry/academic trend and advancement
- Develop extensive IP portfolios in LiDAR technologies for Cruise
What you must have:
- BS, MS, or PhD in engineering, physics, or related field and experience in the relevant industry
- Strong technical knowledge in LiDAR's
- Proven track record of leading LiDAR development from early stages to production by working with cross-functional teams
- Management experience of 3+ years to prove a strong technical leadership and development of talents underneath
- Experience understanding complex technical systems
- Ability to adapt and operate under ambiguity
- Experience with communicating technical and non-technical
- Experience with LiDAR development for autonomous vehicles
- Experience working with automotive OEMs, Tier 1, and Tier 2 suppliers
- Experience with high-reliability/high-availability systems (e.g. aerospace, automotive, medical)
