As a Systems Research Engineer, you will explore cross-stack architectures, optimizations, and tradeoffs across Micron's software, systems, and device technologies. As a member of a nimble research team, your research will focus on multiple layers of the compute stack, including applications, frameworks, operating systems, architectures, and devices. From hypothesizing new solutions to analyzing their performance in real systems, vertical systems researchers at Micron make an impact on real architectures, real workloads, and real platforms. Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in research across Micron's system product portfolio by collaborating across workload, operating system, architecture, and platform boundaries
  • Evaluate and drive research opportunities for Micron's systems portfolio: in-/near-memory computation, workload acceleration, using new memory technologies, and more
  • Develop solutions for real systems problems, spanning novel applications software, operating systems, and systems architecture improvements
  • Monitor and contribute to external research funded by Micron


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Research experience in the areas of architecture, operating systems, applications, memory systems, or related field
  • Architecture-level knowledge of a modern microarchitecture employing x86, RISC-V, ARM, etc.
  • A good grasp of data center, mobile, or embedded systems architectures
  • Programming experience in C, C++, Python, or other high level language


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Published research papers in the areas of architecture, operating systems, applications, memory systems, or related field
  • Experience across one or more application domain: databases, data analytics, search, video, web serving, etc.
  • Ability to understand and optimize system and workload performance
  • Experience prototyping hardware with SystemVerilog, Chisel, or other higher level languages, especially with FPGAs
  • Ability to own and drive independent research projects
