Systems Research Engineer
STR is hiring a Systems Research Engineer who will apply their skills in physics/engineering to various sensing applications for the department of defense and intelligence community. A particular focus will be the design, optimization, simulation and evaluation of AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles)-based sensing platforms. In this role you will collaborate with scientists and domain experts, as well as with a community of information scientists developing AI-based design and optimization tools to accelerate the design of complex cyber-physical systems. Work may span a large range of developments from fleet and platform engineering, integration of sensing, navigation, communications and autonomy components, and development of simulators and evaluation tools. STR seeks experienced individuals capable of leading teams on complex problems where experience provides insights into creative solutions and new opportunities. STR also seeks individuals with expertise in specific domains or specific skill sets to contribute to such teams.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain a Security Clearance
- MS degree or higher, with relevant experience in physics, applied mathematics, ME, EE, or related technical discipline in order to contribute to complex systems engineering problems.
- Scientific curiosity and creativity
- Core mathematical and analytical skills
- Familiarity with Multiphysics modeling, finite element analysis, and computational fluid dynamics
- Familiarity with modern AI, machine learning and deep learning concepts
- Ability to conduct literature surveys to determine state-of-the-art, incorporate recent research and apply to current problem sets
- Strong communication skills and the ability to describe complex technical concepts to fellow researchers as well as to non-technical people
- Ability to rapidly prototype algorithm concepts and ideas and make insightful decisions on research directions to enhance system performance
Desired Qualifications
- Skills in Python, Pytorch, and MATLAB or equivalent
- Ability to rapidly pick up new model-based systems engineering and simulator languages, tools and application
- Familiarity with AUV systems design, navigation, acoustic-based communications, control and autonomy
