Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). This opportunity will provide systems engineering and integration for the Space Launch System (SLS) Flight Safety System (FSS), supporting the Systems Engineering and Integration Office (SEIO) within the SLS Program, Marshall Space Flight Center.

The successful candidate will assist the FSS Integration Lead and will coordinate and interface with the SLS Elements Offices, their Prime Contractor teams and the Air Force Space Command (AFSPC).

Systems engineering support that will be provided and performed includes:

  • Management and integration of all technical, schedule, and safety aspects ensuring decisions are within budget, schedule, and risk allocations.
  • Maintaining cognizance of system-level engineering products, contracted and engineering tasks at the Element level.
  • Providing technical contract performance input to Element Managers and Contracting Officer Representatives (CORs).
  • Leading or serving on post-flight/test assessments, cross-Program/cross-Agency Flight Safety System issue resolution teams and panels.
  • Measuring performance and progress against Program goals and objectives.
  • Managing development/certification logic plans and specifications for Flight Safety Systems.
  • Collaborating with Chief Engineer (CE) and SEIO subject matter experts as appropriate, supporting Material Review Board activities as appropriate; providing input on acceptance of hardware; evaluating and approving test plans as appropriate; and identifying risks and developing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provides programmatic and technical integration for a team consisting of Element, Engineering, S&MA, and support contractors in the design, development, integration, test, evaluation, and operations for the Flight Safety Systems.
  • Ensures engineering design and specifications are adhered to within resource and risk allocations.
  • Makes recommendations and implements actions involving highly complex technical problems, including those that apply to experimental or unconventional integrated systems such as aerospace and aeronautical flight applications.
  • Analyzes, tests, evaluates, validates, and certifies flight hardware, software and system capabilities based on design and operational and safety requirements.
  • Leads technical analyses of assigned systems requirements.



Qualifications

A degree in electrical, aerospace, or related engineering field or equivalent technical discipline from an ABET-accredited university is required. Typically, educational requirements are a BS with at least 10 years of experience.

  • An understanding and knowledge of the current SLS program as well as past NASA programs and projects is highly desired.
  • Experience managing engineering teams or projects, especially those composed of multiple engineering disciplines is desired.
  • Capability to breakdown complex problems or issues into manageable pieces is desired.
  • Familiarity employing systems engineering processes and concepts for the definition and integration of requirements as well as adhering to Configuration Management (CM) processes used for the control of requirement data/documents is desired.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills are required. Experience developing and delivering executive level briefings is required.
  • Outstanding negotiation skills demonstrated through complex technical problem solving is required.
  • A working knowledge of NASA flight safety requirements is desired.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook) are required.
