Sentient Energy is recruiting for a full-time System Engineer in our Customer Operations organization. The Customer Operations organization is responsible for designing and implementing solutions for deploying, commissioning, and operating Sentient Energy's unique line of hardware and software products into utility distribution networks and operations.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work with emerging technologies in the rapidly developing and highly visibility Digital Grid space within the utility and industrial energy sector. What You Will Do In Your Role

  • The selected candidate will work in the Customer Operations organization in conjunction with Sentient Energy's sales, engineering, product management, production support and data science teams to partner with utilities to develop and support all phases of Sentient Energy's product planning, deployment, testing, and operations.
  • Lead customer facing technical engineering on assigned accounts in support of deployment and commissioning of global hosted and on-prem customer deployments
  • Install, upgrade, design, document, and review enterprise hosted and on-prem customer deployments
  • Ensure services are designed and delivered to be mission critical with a focus on security within broader goals of resiliency, scale, and performance
  • Lead troubleshoots efforts for Sentient software, integrations and related customer network, security, and compute infrastructure issues
  • Support field operations including troubleshooting and remediation of technical issues in Sentient software as well as related customer infrastructure issues
  • Provide technical analysis, testing and validation to ensure delivery meets contracted scope and project definition
  • Develop and refine standard solution architecture blueprints and promote standardization and reuse to enhance life cycle speed, cost efficiency and effectiveness of solutions
  • Implement, and monitor Sentient Energy Commercial IT systems policies and controls, including information security, asset management in compliance with relevant regulation
  • Develop, manage, and maintain automated processes to effectively administer, support, and perform maintenance on servers and systems. This should include standardized processes for Sentient Energy Commercial systems to perform regular maintenance such as integrity checks, backups, replication, and optimization
  • Cultivate a code-first mindset and work to champion code-centric solutions to improve velocity and deliverability
  • Drive deployment excellence and product quality through a software-defined approach to securing operations and infrastructure



The Experience You Will Bring
Requirements:

  • 6+ years of systems engineering experience
  • 3+ years of experience in deployment of enterprise systems, system administration, configuration, and commissioning
  • Professional experience supporting Server environments; Linux server environment strongly preferred.
  • Familiar with CI/CD pipelines, such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Bitbucket pipeline
  • Background with common infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Chef, and Ansible
  • Proficiency with at least one technology language like Java, JavaScript, NodeJS, Golang or Python
  • Be a firm believer in "automate everything"



What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure as code, automated application deployment, monitoring/telemetry, logging, reporting, and continuous delivery technologies
  • In-depth knowledge of Amazon Web Services including experience with Lambda, IAM, KMS, VPC, ELB, EC2, RDS, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, Ansible and Jenkins
  • Experience building module libraries using IaC tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.
  • Experience with CloudKnox, DivvyCloud, Turbot, or other platform management tools
  • Familiarity with IoT, advanced analytics, machine learning
  • Technical understanding of overall electric operations systems, including electric power systems, distribution automation, and distributed control systems and communications
  • Experience in electric power utility, power systems, utility SCADA/DMS, networking or distribution grid
  • Experience with Linux, Windows Server System, System Operation, DNP3 architecture, Cyber Security Standards, and/or optimizing VMs



Experience with the Following Technology is Preferred

  • Experience in the following technologies is preferred:
  • AWS services (EC2, ELB, RDS, KMS, Cloudfront, Secrets Manager, Route53, S3, Lambda)
  • Infrastructure/cloud automation tooling (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Containers and Container Management (Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
  • Configuration and Security Management (e.g., SSL Certs, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, Vault, KMS)
  • Security Tools: (Scanners, Interactive security testing tools, Burp)
  • Endpoint host protection technologies (Crowdstrike, Falco);
  • DoS mitigation strategies, Web Application Firewalls, etc
