We are seeking a dynamic Senior Specialist Systems Engineer to join our L3Harris team in Mason, Ohio. The Senior Specialist Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting mission-critical maritime sensor development programs with specific focus on the analysis of next-generation surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting sensor system performance in varied operational environments and scenarios.

When you join L3Harris Space & Sensors, you will be an integral part of an innovative and fast moving team where you will collaborate with engineers and scientists to build and deliver mission-critical InfraRed (IR) sensor products. You should have considerable systems engineering experience in large development programs that included electronic, sensor, and/or imaging subsystems, with IR, Lidar, ActiveEO, or equivalent sensors experience being a plus. The successful technical leader will bring their passion for system definition, system architecture, analysis, design, integration, and test, and be able to adapt, communicate, and deliver on next-generation capabilities for passive sensor systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities include review, analysis, and understanding of program level objectives, system concept of operation, host platform architectures and interfaces, and sensor system and subsystem equipment, functions, interfaces, and operations.
  • Develop product architecture and define system behavior, requirements, and parametrics. Able to use a range of methods and tools to capture stakeholder and system requirements, facilitate discussion and understanding of system usage, and enhance a culture of model-based designs.
  • Collaborate with other Systems Engineers in the development of work products, including: System Specifications, Logically Derived and Linked Requirements, Interface Definitions, System Diagrams, Systems Analyses, Trade Studies, and Detailed Designs.
  • Able to effectively communicate and transfer system architecture and design knowledge with other functions including Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, Suppliers, and Customers.
  • Able to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of system engineers in the areas of systems engineering analysis, architecture, trade studies, and continuous process improvement.
  • Oversight and coordination of Integration & testing planning for complex subsystems across all interfaces (i.e., mechanical, electrical, and software), which includes planning, and analysis, evaluation, and/or troubleshooting of system operation.
  • Able to succinctly and effectively brief status and results to program and customer senior leadership.
  • Actively work with peers and specialists on cross-functional teams to solve a wide range of difficult and unique issues to meet shared product milestones.
  • Development and coordination of engineering artifacts for program design reviews.

Qualifications:

  • US Citizen with ability to gain a collateral secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of applicable systems engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in multiple aspects of systems engineering across multiple phases of programs, with application of rigorous systems engineering processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well within and outside of the organization including customers, vendors, and leadership with minimal oversight.
  • Strong drive and sense of ownership.
  • Willing to travel as required.
  • Pre-employment federal level drug screening and background checks are standard.
  • L3Harris is an e-Verify Employer.

Preferred Additional Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with SysML and MBSE.
  • Graduate degree in engineering.
  • Demonstrated proposal-writing capability.
  • Prior systems engineering experience on at least two programs, with at least one program being a large scale and complex program (i.e., > 25 System Engineers and/or >$100M).

ADA Requirements:

  • Able to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to hear and speak.
  • May be required to lift up to 10 pounds, with assistance.
    • Typical office environment.
    • Able to work additional hours as needed to ensure responsibilities are met.
