Basic Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 8+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance is requried at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an exciting position in our sunny Orlando, Florida location. We are seeking a senior systems engineer to provide technical leadership and systems engineering for the development of our next generation military training product line. In this role as lead systems engineer, you will perform the following:

  • Provide technical leadership of multi-disciplined engineering teams for major programs and projects from kickoff through successful closeout to include concept, requirements definition, design, fabrication, integration, test, production, acceptance, delivery, installation, training, maintenance, and disposal
  • Develop solutions to meet customer requirements and technical performance while staying within schedule and budget constraints
  • Provide the technical interface to our customer and other disciplines including program management, manufacturing/operations, logistics, and supply change management
  • Perform and lead technical planning and analysis of total ownership cost, risks and opportunities and supportability for systems and system elements
  • Lead major milestone reviews in the product development lifecycle such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR and GAT
  • Play a significant role in the transition of engineering designs into production
  • Utilize established best practice engineering processes throughout the engineering development lifecycle
  • Design and analyze systems and equipment including computational, network and mechanical/electrical interfaces.
  • Conduct trade studies and feasibility studies on system elements such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of designs and the application of these designs
  • Perform and lead customer requirements analysis, develop system requirements and derive requirements for lower-level subsystems, elements, and components
  • Lead and/or contribute to the development of technical proposals for new business opportunities
  • Publish white papers; prepare presentations and briefings to customer and industry partners, as required
  • Be an active participant in technical interchange meetings to interface to other working groups and customer representatives



KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Hands-On experience with US Army Training systems, test equipment and simulation systems
  • Proven leadership skills such as delegation and monitoring, providing constructive feedback, organizing project and teams, mentoring, developing others and fostering innovation
  • Holistic understanding of the entire engineering product development process/lifecycle augmented with actual experience with engineering design documentation (drawings and specifications), procurement processes, factory floor fabrication, production and integration, factory or in-plant test and integration
  • Experience with field delivery, integration and test, and selloff
  • Understands the needs and requirements of system operators and users and uses this understanding to influence system design improvements
  • Proficient with Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) and the understanding of how DTUPC affects the design and production of a sustainable product line.
  • Demonstrated experience with transitioning an engineering design into full rate production.
  • Significant use, understanding and tailoring of systems engineering processes, principles, and theories
  • Capable of performing system architecture while understanding the strengths/weaknesses within those architectures and develops architectural variations as necessary
  • Demonstrated experience with risk and opportunity identification (technical, schedule, budget) and mitigation strategies
  • Familiar with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts and MBSE tool(s).
  • Significant written and verbal communications skills, able to provide clear technical direction and status reporting to both our customer and senior management
  • Creative thinker, self-starter, and team motivator
  • Ability to multi-task on multiple activities and/or projects
  • Understanding of project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls
  • Experience or knowledge of the Agile development methodology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
