System Validation Engineer - Propulsion Battery Systems
Description
This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite every other week.
We are seeking an energetic, innovative, and knowledgeable individual to add to our Powertrain Propulsion Validation team! On this team, we ensure the design of our engine, transmission, electric drive unit and rechargeable energy storage systems (aka RESS, also known as battery pack) meet requirements, and the quality, reliability, and performance exceed customer's expectation. The System Validation Engineer will serve as the single point contact for an engine, transmission, drive unit or, as in this case, a RESS program family. In this position, the SVE is responsible for all aspects of validation, with a technical focus at the system level. Playing a key role in shaping the future of validation, the SVE will lead as we continue efforts to shift from physical to virtual testing. The SVE role provides opportunities to apply and hone a wide range of engineering skills as you develop, communicate, and execute robust and optimized validation plans. This position provides extensive opportunities to improve your personal network as it requires interfacing with product team, VDDV, development, calibration, vehicle teams, operations, and supplier organizations.

- Understanding of propulsion laboratory operations
- Product program budget process
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- System validation single point contact to the propulsion program team
- Has technical understand of system level validation and requirements, as well as component hardware level of knowledge
- Develop, plan, and drive execution of program-specific validation plans
- Prioritize workload and negotiate resources necessary to support in-house testing
- Facilitate post-test teardown and DRBTR
- Track system and component validation status & sign-off to meet validation deliverables
- Co-Chair Development and Validation meeting for assigned program, providing coordination, tracking and status of all aspects of validation
- Provide status updates at other meetings as required (PAPIR)
- Ensure all Certification/Regulation Compliance testing is completed
- Ensure proper project reporting, review, closure, documentation, and archival including capturing all lessons learned and appropriate updates to FMEA templates
- Participate in DFMEAs and DRBFMs
- Provide mentoring and feedback to engineers supporting validation activities
- Support vision to VDDV growth/linkage to validation to move to all virtual
Additional Description
Basic Required Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of post graduate automotive engineering experience
- Experience in development, validation, calibration, and/or design release in battery systems or components
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, Information Technology, and/or Chemistry
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and to make sound recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority
- Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with diverse teams
- Demonstrated ability to complete vague and ambiguous assignments with little direction
- Demonstrated ability to present complex technical topics
- Expert knowledge of system/component content, technical requirements (SSTS, CTS, VTS, etc.), development needs, program timing, and standard validation tests
- Understanding of design of experiments, accelerated life testing, reliability, and methods
Preferred Skills:
- MS Engineering
- Experience with electrical, thermal, or chemical virtual modeling and simulation
- Experience with battery laboratory technology (battery cyclers, test automation systems)
- Experience in one or several areas: Battery Electric Vehicle Systems (Electric Motors, Drive Units, Power Electronics, HV Batteries), Vehicle or System-Level Calibration, ICE or Conventional Transmission Development or Validation, Instrumentation & Test Automation, CAE/Analysis Background
- DFSS and Root Cause / Red-X experience
