System Integration and Innovation Engineer - Body Electronics

General Motors Global Electrification, Controls, Software and Electronics organization is focused on a world with Zero crashes, Zero emissions and Zero congestion. This Systems role within the Body/HVAC/Passive Safety Electronics & Controls team will support new technology development applicable to aspects of autonomous, electric, and traditional internal combustion applications. Agile, System Engineering, controls integration, requirements development, and interior or exterior lighting controls knowledge are a definite plus. The System Integration and Innovation Engineer is an individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, functional control strategy, systems design and implementation, testing and verification, and problem resolution.
This is a hybrid role with significant time expected working at the GM Milford Proving Grounds.
Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Work within the Systems Agile Team to concept, develop, and verify tools that drive efficiency to the development and verification of system level requirements and software.
- Develop and support projects that drive 100% VDDV initiatives.
- Develop proficiencies with NeoVI, V-Spy, and Big Lever Gears in order to automate verification and calibration development activity.
- Lead bench planning and development activities; including hardware procurement and conducting software updates.
- Work closely with Feature and System Owners to provide guidance and input to feature function development; resolve complex issues.
- Work with GM Design to complete exterior and interior lighting timing analyses to support choreographed functions.
- Work closely with the Subsystem Management Team (SMT) to provide guidance on functionality associated with vehicle specific feature variants.
- Review and confirm subsystem/component technical specifications in IBM DOORS and/or DOORS Next Generation; includes functional and performance requirements, diagnostic requirements and CALibration Bill of Materials (CALBOM).
- Work with global software engineers to review software models to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements.
- Support subsystem related issue root cause analysis, whether in vehicles or in electrical benches.
- Review Owner's Manual and Service Information related to applicable subsystems, as needed.
- Support implementation of new feature/functions related to applicable subsystems, as needed.
- Schedule meetings to formulate solutions to issues and translate solutions into requirements.
- Conduct bench and vehicle verification testing as defined by agile teams within the ART..
- Support advanced technical work projects that drive future feature and vehicle enhancements.
Additional Description
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Software or Electrical preferred), Math, Physics, or Computer Science.
- 2+ years Experience in applying microprocessor-based controllers to automotive vehicle electrical systems.
- Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming.
- Knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (CAN, GMLAN, LIN).
- Knowledge of embedded controller systems electrical circuits.
- Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software/hardware requirements.
- High level knowledge of software verification/validation process.
- 2+ years of related engineering experience.
Desired Skills (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with microprocessor-based controllers.
- Experience working with diagnostic tools such as Vehicle Spy, CANoe, CANalyzer, NeoVI.
- Experience using technical requirements software such as IBM DOORS.
- Experience using change control management software such as Rational Team Concert.
- Experience using software configuration management tools such as IBM Rational Synergy.
- Experienced applying DFSS or Operational Excellence concepts.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational agility, collaborative spirit, and interpersonal skills to effectively work within an AGILE Release Train.
- Experience and application of System Engineering principles.
- Experience with Agile practices on an Agile Team.
- Proficient at analyzing unusual and complex issues utilizing problem solving skills to identify dependencies and issues while driving for results in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment.
