As a Supplier Quality Engineer on the Quality Team you will be responsible for supporting sourcing raw materials for filament production from various vendors while maintaining high quality standards. The role will support the sourcing, Materials Engineering and manufacturing teams in the selection and qualification of suppliers and own the process of qualifying the raw materials, product or service being procured. You will also own all supplier non conformances identified and manage resulting corrective action activities to ensure successful resolution of problems. 

What will you own?

  • Ensure the quality of purchased components through an established quality management system
  • Validate new suppliers and participate in the source selection process
  • Utilize statistical techniques to qualify, quantify, and analyze plant or system capabilities, and other continual improvements.
  • Visit and audit supplier facilities on a regular basis to review manufacturing processes, quality records, etc.
  • Help define in-process and end of line tests and measurement systems
  • Conduct quality review meetings with external suppliers and design engineering groups
  • Provide support to design engineering teams to identify manufacturability and quality control issues
  • Manage Supplier non-conformance material, feedback to suppliers, creation, and management of quality plans and improvement plans.
  • Create regular SQA reports and participate in supplier scorecard updates
  • Create and maintain policies and quality assurance documents to be implemented at our suppliers
  • Support troubleshooting of material issues in MRB and facilitate Root Cause Investigations (RCI’s) related to the supplied material’s impact on final product performance while developing mitigation strategies to prevent escapes
  • Lead investigation into new or alternative materials and processes for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction for current and future programs/products.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering(Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S, Six Sigma, and Kanban Systems
  • Technical writing skills that include quality procedures and test plans
  • Previous experience with plastics, powder processing, polymer compounding or mixing, or plastic extrusion systems is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of quality tools; i.e. supplier assessments, First Article Inspections (FAI), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), 8D Problem Solving, Root-Cause Analysis, Corrective Action, Mistake Proofing and Process Control.
  • Conducting Supplier quality risk assessment and mitigation activities.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt preferred
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally
