We are seeking a Technical Lead to execute on the design, development, and production of sensor assemblies that integrate with purpose-built autonomous vehicles. These assemblies connect the sensor technology to the vehicle and balance requirements for sensing, data aggregation, power management, sensor cleaning, vehicle aerodynamics, and vehicle aesthetics. In this position, you will be responsible for collaborating with all the technical workstreams ; Sensors, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Test to ensure the component meets the requirements developed with Product, Systems, Reliability, Functional Safety, and Security teams. You and the Technical Program Manager and Supply Chain Manager of the component will manage cost and timing targets as well as any change requests. Externally you’ll work with industry experts at GM, Honda, and top global suppliers to realize the components and integrate them.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead technical discussions and conduct design reviews with cross-functional teams and relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers and industrial designers to develop the assembly structure, thermal management, harness and hose routing, and interactions with the vehicle aesthetic-surface components.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering and Architecture teams to drive the requirement's definition, analysis, development and documentation of assembly technical specifications
  • Review test plans and test results ensuring requirements have been met by the hardware design
  • Collaborate with Product, Safety, and Legal teams to ensure that the product meets all regulatory requirements
  • Partner with Technical Project Management to track timelines, burn down risks, and seek opportunities
  • Partner with Supply Chain Management to build supplier relationships and seek opportunities to reduce hardware development and unit costs
  • Participate in feature/system safety analyses and component DFMEA
  • Evaluate and lead all engineering change orders over the lifecycle of the product

What you must have:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, or Equivalent
  • 8+ years of postgraduate experience developing automotive or aerospace components or assemblies
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems, specifically relating to vehicle components and hardware integration
  • Experience with key integration concepts such as tolerance, vibration, thermal, power, and data
  • Experience with industrial design for automotive or consumer products
  • Experience with a full product lifecycle from conception to mass production
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX, Solidworks, CATIA, etc.
  • Technical collaborator with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, mechanical, and software engineering
  • Design and certification experience to GMW, CISPR, or FCC/CE standards
  • Excellent project management and supply chain management skills and collaboration with those teams

  • Experience integrating sensors such as LiDAR, RADAR, camera, and/or acoustics/ultrasonics
  • Experience with sensor cleaning
  • Experience with sensor calibration
  • Experience in the automotive industry
  • Familiarity with working in a mass production environment
  • Experience with Automotive standards such as ISO26262 and AEC-Q100/200
